While recently searching for an advertising campaign for a Hoover Vacuum, I stumbled across a vintage Holiday ad that grabbed my interest. Curious to see more of these types of great ads, I began my search for vintage advertising and fell in love with the style of artwork!  It's interesting that today more & more ads are photographed and use live models, where as the vintage ads were all about creating the mood and selling the product through artwork!

Over the years advertisers have found various ways to grab the attention of consumers with their fanciful Holiday advertisments. In what way will they market their products year after year, to bring in TOP sales.

Well, things certainly have changed quite a bit with advertising in the 21st century, but perhaps you'll recall some of these holiday advertising campaigns from years past!  What I really find facinating is that mostly all of these products are still selling strong today! Enjoy!

Schwinn

 Coca Cola

This is the Hoover Vacuum Holiday advertisment that first caught my attention and started the search for more Vintage Ads.

The Hoover Company is  still going strong today!

How could we forget this favorite stocking stuffer!

"What walks down stairs, alone or in pairs and makes a slinkety sound,a spring a spring a marvelous thing, everyone knows it's Slinky!...It's Slinky, It's Slinky, for FUN it's a wonderful toy,...                       It's Slinky, It's Slinky, It's FUN for a girl or a boy"!

Amazing how advertising works, when you can still remember the silly product jingle 40 years later!   That's a real scary thing!

Hope you enjoyed a look back at some of these vintage ads, some you may even remember seeing before.  That is if you are part of the baby boom generation! Happy Holidays!

I sure wouldn't want a vacuum cleaner for Christmas! Things have changed. I remember the Slinky jingles, and I can sing the Mr. Clean song, too.

Hey, Michelle -

It seems to me the most successful Christmas ads - or ads in general - touch readers/viewers at a PERSONAL level.  Heartwarming, making you feel GOOD.

Unfortunately, many in the Real Estate Community haven't learned this focus, instead opting for "I'm the Best," or "Look How Many Homes I Sold Last Year."

Get warmer!  What's in it for THEM?  Yes?

Happy Holidays - now, where the heck is my old Slinky?

Michelle: I love this post! I still feel the "vintage" days were priceless...simple....classy... and I WISH things were more like that now.

Michelle--I love classic anything...I still wish Norelco would have Santa ride the electric razor over the snow...one of my favorite holiday commercials.

Thanks for that, I love that old advertising actually employed artists!  No, I don't think models are artists!  Maybe the photographers....

The slinky ad and the GE one are my favorites.  It'll be interesting to see if this type of advertising will be reinvented in the modern era.

Leslie- I know it's not every girls dream, but unfortunately I had to ask Santa for a vacuum this year! Here's my sad story. Christmas MeMe   I'd like to hear a few bars of that Mr. Clean song! ;)

Dean-You are so right!  A lot of realtors like the bragging angle, I personally like the heartfelt approach myself.  Hope you found your Slinky.  I know you can't wait to push it down the staircase! :)

Kat- I know what you mean, times were so much simpler then.

Teri- Thanks for the reminder, I loved that commercial too!  They used to play it between commercial breaks from Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer.  Great memory! Norelco Santa

Michelle - why did you not get points for this post?  You certainly had more than 50 words!?!  Could it be the photos are copyrighted.  I'm quite curious to know as I'm on a campaign to understand the point system here.  Did you call or write A|R to find out?  Please let me know.

Michelle ~ Thanks for the trip down memory lane.  My grandfather was a Schwinn dealer for several years.  I think Schwinn did go bankrupt several years but they still make Schwinn bikes.  Schwinn is now owned by a Chinese Company.

Hi Michelle, I have to admit I'm a sucker for the vintage ads. I had sent out vintage Christmas and Holiday cards this year.

Framed vintage posters can look quite smart in a contemporary setting. Thanks for bringing back the memories w/ those photos!

Doesn't our Sharon Tara look adorable with her brother & Thumbelina doll?
