This is a photo at the Acropolis in Athens, Greece taken in the summer of 2007.

I've been at a loss these past few days, watching the news about the riots happening not only in Athens, but throughout the country, as the aftermath of a police officer shooting a 15 year old boy.  Police brutality is nothing new in Greece, and this has fanned the flames of the younger generation who are speaking up.  I've been glued to the Greek news sites and channels these past few days, and hope the destruction ceases sooner rather than later.  I have a feeling though, that it will carry on into another week, at least.

Beautiful photograph - I was hoping for a comment like "This house is a definite fixer upper."  But it a serious situation there and we hope that our friend with family there stay safe.

It is so sad, I haven't heard an update about it lately so will have to look online.  I hope it ends soon.

There's certainly a lot of history there.  Hopefully current events will pass quickly.

Ryan - Yes, it is a fixer upper!  As for Athens, luckily there aren't many injuries as the purpose of the riots aren't to hurt anyone.  But there are break-ins to businessess which is a shame, as acts like that take away from what the protest is about and they are being done by anarchists, not by the student protesters.

Lauren - Thanks for stopping by, it really is sad.  CNN has very one-sided news, and it is not accurate.  If you want updates you are better off checking out www.bbc.com .

Richard - Wow, that must have been some infestation!  LOL

Elizabeth - Seems to me that when you look up, you can see who is looking back down right at you!  As evident to me, in this photo.

I can understand protesting, but the looting and burning comes from thugs....

Jeannie - I think your photograph is great! And I always try to capture the sun rays coming from behind my objects, this really looks like a photograph that I would take. (Wonderful)

Edward & Cecila - I agree, the majority of the burning and looting seems to be coming from those who would burn and loot for any reason at all.  The majority of those caught and arrested for that type of rioting have been illegal foreigners.

Robert - I have seen a number of your photographs, so coming from you that is quite a compliment!  Thank you!

Jeannie,

Very nice shot with the sun and the architecture. Quite travelog or documentary looking. :)

Steve - I'm glad you liked it!  I have so many photos from that trip, it was hard to pick just one.  But, with the sun shinging down through the ruins, this has turned out to be one of my favorites.

Actually, I do have a bit of a travelog here on my AR blog if your are interested:  Home Sweet Home - Back From Vacation
