A new museum dedicated to the Hershey chocolate story will be opening in January right here on West Chocolate Avenue.

The museum is dedicated to honoring and preserving the life of Milton Hershey, the founder of Hershey and innovator of all the sweet treats we enjoy today. Incidently, this is the first large building on Chocolate Avenue, Hershey's main street, in 75 years.

When opened, the museum will include a chocolate laboratory, a museum shop, Cafe Zooka (featuring chocolate desserts and a chocolate tasing area.

In preparation for the opening, the former Hershey Museum closed arounf Thanksgiving so that permanent exhibits could be moved to the new facility. The old museum, located in the middle of the Chocolate World, Hershey Park and HersheyPark Arena area was difficult to get into during the summer season because of the lack of nearby parking.

This is the new Hershey Story building:

This reminds me of an experience that happened to my friend. She and her mother were from Missouri and were driving through PA. As they were driving they saw signs for Hershey park and they decided to go and see it for a short time to break up the drive. Well they went to the Chocolate world "ride" and they left afterwards thinking that the mid-west amusement parks are way better that the ones in the east. Thanks for the Hershey news, another reason to go up! And what is going on in Hershey for the holidays?

Maggie,

Your friend must have driven by after Labor Day. Hershey Park is open daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day and is right next to Chocolate World. I don't know how they missed the roller coasters and gigantic parking lot. Tunnel vision I guess.

The park is actually open on weekends thru Christmas for Christmas Candy Lane. We didn't go this year because weekend days lately have been in the high 30's and it's just too cold

Well Fred, When you go to see the museum you have to let me know how it is. It sounds abolutely delicious and I'll bet it smells divine.  I would love to see it and taste it.  The history behind that must be really interesting.  Thanks for sharing.  My mouth is watering.
