You're moving...what do you do with the Household Hazardous Waste?
First, what is Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)? This link is from the US Environmental Protection Agency.
There are obvious ones such as paint,; but did you know moth balls and toilet cleaners are HHW too?
Second, when is HHW pick-up in New Hampshire? This link is the NH Spring 2007 Schedule of HHW Collections.
It lists NH towns, dates & times of pick up, and the coordinator's name and contact info. If your NH town is not on the list, call the NH Dept of Environmental Services Waste Management Division @ 603-271-2047
<<<If you're wondering when your Hazardous Waste pick up day is, Google "hazardous waste your city"
*Try to use up your cleaning supplies. Give away the rest to family and friends.
*Latex paint doesn't have to be hazardous waste. If you cannot find a friend who'd like to use the rest of your latex paint, sprinkle kitty litter or shredded newspaper into the paint, stir, and let completely dry. Then dispose of in usual trash. How can you tell if it's latex? It will say so on the label, but if your label is covered up, it will say "cleans up with soap and water".
*Oil based or "alkyd" paints should never be poured onto the ground or dumped down any drain. These must be brought to a HHW Collection Center.
Remember, a professional moving company will NOT transport any HHW. You cannot leave HHW in your home for the next home owner to deal with. Be responsible and handle your hazardous waste with care!
