Ice Storm 2008 NH c judy tuscano

On December 11 & 12, the southern tier of New Hampshire and Northern Massachusetts were hit with an ice storm that has left thousands without power and decimated the area's electrical grid.

As of the latest reports, upwards of 100,000 residents are still without power. The local electric companies have been getting aid from as far as Canada and many of the surrounding states.Trees encrusted c judy tuscano

Some have stayed in their homes with generator power and still others are keeping warm with alternative heat such as wood, pellet & gas stoves and fireplaces. Many have chosen to go to hotels, family & friends homes and shelters.

If you have left or plan to leave your home, remember to drain out the pipes and add antifreeze to avoid freeze ups in your absence. Burst pipes can lead to an array of problems not the least of which is flooding, damage to walls, ceilings and in the long term mold.

You can read more about this storm and it's effects on my new wordpress.com blog called, The NH Real Estate Market Voice.

I am so happy to have running water in my home again. I hope I remember not to take this blessing for granted ever again.

Judy this ice storm was a nasty one.  Most of Connecticut was spared from it, but many of those in the northern part of the state that got hit with it still do not have their power back.

It is beautiful, but it comes with so many problems. I hope that power will be restored to everyone soon. ~GBU~

Linda - thanks for your care and concern - they are telling us the electrical grid has not ever sustained such wide spread damage. There are still a lot of people without power.

George - Not having access to TV, Internet - I was not aware of how far the storm reached.

Elizabeth - Ice makes for a beautiful winter landscape but the damage it can do can be devastating. Thanks for the blessing.

It is pretty, like everything is encased in glass.  Too bad it is so damaging!

Sharon - It is so beautiful but we have found out the extent of the damage it can do with still over 50,000 people living without power today (1 week later).

I am so happy to be back in my house. The power came on at 4:50 pm today and after 8 cold days I am finally warm!

Moni - I am so happy to hear you are in your home with heat and running water again. I was so worried about you in the snow storm tonight. Now I can rest knowing you and jay are safe. I hope the electric companies are able to get everyone back on line soon. I know they are working hard to do so but it does not help when you are the one out in the cold.

Shirley - We are warm and well. There are still around 20-30 thousand people in NH without power and we are in the midst of a snowstorm due to dump about a foot of snow tonight.
