Social Networking is all about conversation and getting your name out to many people. It's an easy format to let people know what you are doing, what you have done, and what you are going to do. You can connect with friends, classmates, co-workers, and people they all know, as well as reconnect with people from your past. LinkedIn is one of the more professional sites that is a necessety for social marketing, and here's why.
LinkedIn is used by over 25 million experienced professionals from around the world representing over 150 industries. LinkedIn is considered the ultimate word-of-mouth tool. You can use it to facilitate a professional conversation between you and your prospects, clients, potential employers, and other professionals such as lenders, title and escrow officers, home inspectors, and appraisers.
You can promote yourself by posting your mission statement, business objectives, and professional accomplishments. Prospects can see a snapshot of your business connections, and you can provide input on what other professionals or clients have to say about their experience with you. One of the best features is that you can facilitate introductions between the people you know and who you think they should know and vice versa.
I recently read a post by Brad Andersohn that also talked all about additional applications you can add to LinkedIn, including adding your blog posts.
I still have a lot to learn about LinkedIn, but I feel it is a great site for social networking. If you haven't checked out LinkedIn yet, I recommend starting up an account immediately. Perhaps I will see you there!
Like they say on their website, "LinkedIn isn't networking, it's what networking should be." So, "Sign Up, It's free and anyone can join."
