Google Adsense - How to Install Google Adsense for Content on Your Real Estate Website

By
Real Estate Agent with PREA Signature Realty - www.preasignaturerealty.com

Google Adsense is extremely easy to install on your real estate website in seven easy steps.  There is something said for making the process easy and fairly understable - with the exception of the help page on how to set up channels.

Here are the steps to install Google Adsense on your website:

STEP 1 - SELECT GOOGLE ADSENSE PROGRAM: After logging into your Google Adsense account, click on the AdSense Setup tab and then click on Adsense for Content.

STEP 2 - SELECT TYPE OF ADVERTISEMENT:  Choose between ad units and link units.  Ad units contain text and/or images with a title, description and URL.  Link units are hyperlinks to a websites.  A visual depiction of ad units and link units are located to the right of the unit selection.

STEP 3 - SELECT AD FORMAT AND COLORS:  In Step 3, you are presented with two basis options to blend your advertisement frame to your website.  First, you select the format and size for the advertisement frame.  To see examples, click on Ad Format to see the available formats.  Second, you can customize the colors for the advertisement to match or contrast the colors used on the website.  As you change the background and other color requirements for the advertisement, you can view how it will look by looking at the sample advertisement below and to the left of the color controls.  The color controls only apply to text based advertisements, not image advertisements.

STEP 4 - SET UP URL CHANNEL:  Although it is confusing, the ad channels allow you to track advertisements by website domain or by individual pages.  Follow help menu to set up the channel and then add the channel to the advertisement.

STEP 5 - OBTAIN CODE AND COPY AND PASTE INTO YOUR WEBSITE.  The code is a Javascript and can be copied and pasted directly into you website page.  Google Adsense crawlers then visit your site to determine whether the advertisements sent by Google Adsense for publication in the advertisement frame on your website page are appropriate for your site.

STEP 6 - COMPETITOR AD FILTER:  To avoid having your competitor's advertisements placed on your site, you can filter these sites by entering their URL in an ad filter.  It can also be used to filter objectionable advertisements.

Very instructive!  Google is a godsend for sure.  I think they will soon take over the web.

Randall:  I have mixed emotions about Google Adsense.  On one hand, I have concerns about  inappropriate ads (waiting for the Viagra ads), competitor ads, driving people away from site (when they click on link), and the effect of paid advertising insofar as it cheapens the website content.  We tried to address these issues by restricting the placement, using banner images (versus text), monitoring the ads placed, etc.  On the other hand, it is a revenue stream and the ads placed on our sites have been for real estate areas that we simply don't cover - Florida retirement communities and Costa Rica land sales, foreclosures and FSBOs, and international properties.  We are watching closely to see what pops up so we can use the competitor filter.  Although the revenue stream is marginal (estimate $50 per month), it does offset the hosting costs.  As the software makers love to say, we are Beta testing the product right now..

It seems like we are in the same situation as you.  Not sure Adsense is worth it - will it help offset expenses by generating enough revenue to make it worthwhile, or like you said, will it drive potential prospects to other websites and make our website only a pass through.

We have not decided to include Google Adsense in our website to date, but thanks for showing us how - in case we every decide to go that route.

I don't have the trafficyet to generate the revenue but ads are usually considered annoying so I guess it depends on how much money you will make.

I would never put adsense on a professional website. It has no place there. People dont want ads. If you want to make money off ads then make a different website and get people to go there for that purpose.

Make money from real estate on a real estate website.

Shane:  I share some of your comments.  We are testing the concept.  In reviewing the advertisements, the advertisements have so far been consistent with the services that we provide and have been for areas that we don't generally cover such as FSBOs, foreclosures and international properties.  We only use banner advertisements and the placement is at the bottom of the page.  We don't use smaller ads or text ads.  As a result, I think the quality of the ads is improved.  We are still evaluating the use of Google Adsense.  However, after the first two weeks, the ads have paid for half our monthly hosting.  We will probably cut back the number of pages that have advertisements and provide these banner ad spaces to our preferred partners for advertising.  I plan to do a post summarizing the pros and cons of using Google Adsense after we have 30 days of data for tracking.
