Cedo, El Centro de Estudios de Desiertos y Océanos, or the Intercultural Cender for the Study of Deserts and Oceans, is located just minutes out of Penasco.
The center opened to the public in 1980 and has provided thousands the opportunity to explore the creatures, habitats and cultures of the Sonoran Desert and Sea of Cortez and participate in research, education and conservation programs.
Of current interest, four different species of sea turtles were observed in the Sea of Cortez this fall, and there have been sightings of vaquita porpoises.
