This is a photo of the Lake Norman Dam next to the Nuclear Power plant on the south side of Lake Norman. I know it's not that pretty, but it's so mammoth in size and it's actually keeping so much water in on the other side. Lake Norman is a man-made Lake.
The water just south of it flows down into South Carolina--The Catawba Valley River Chain.
