The Key West City Commission was being asked to require commercial boats that had leases at the bight to use sewage pump-out stations.

 

50 years ago

The state road department voted to transfer title to the Marathon airport to Monroe County. The airport was leased to National Airlines but Marathon residents had complained it was not being properly maintained.

 

The Little Charles Hotel, John C. Ramsey manager, was at 713 Whitemarsh Lane.

 

The Marathon Junior Chamber of Commerce was holding its second annual Christmas Ball at the Buccaneer Lodge.

 

The new officers of the Marathon Kiwanis were: H.O. Williams, president; Norman Martin-Vegue, first vice president; Chester P. Sadowski, second vice president; Robert F. Fuller, treasurer; and William T. Hill, secretary.

 

Sam Silberman, a Key West businessman, was elected president of the Key West Golf Club. Jimmy Mira was voted in as entertainment chairman.

 

100 years ago

The Key West and Havana baseball teams played two games on two days before large crowds. The Havana team won both games.
