INTRODUCING A NEW GROUP - THE BLOGGING CRITICS EXCHANGE

By

WHERE DO ALL THE CRITICS COME FROM?

Blogging is for everyone, everyone who blogs.  If it weren't for them, they wouldn't blog.  Even the critics need bloggers who write what the blogging critics consider bad blogs.  Otherwise, the blog critics wouldn't have anything to blog about.  They, the bloggers, had something to say or they wouldn't have blogged.

Bloggers are like sand pebbles.  Put enough of us together and you have a wonderful sandy beach that supports, can be molded and offers beauty beyond the ability of mere mortals.

Blogging critics are like ocean waves.  They wash over everything, then drift away and, with predictable regularity, sweep some bloggers out to sea to obscurity until another wave comes along and lifts them up and puts them back on the sandy beach where they can enjoy the warm sun and light.

Perhaps there should be an Active Rain Group called the Blogging Critics Exchange.  O.K.  Done ! ! ! !   Got a gripe about bloggers?   Put it on the Blogging Critics Exchange.  Everyone is welcomed, the bloggers, the critics of bloggers and the critics of the critics of bloggers, blogs and blogging.

My favorite critic is the blogger critic who criticizes blogs, blogging and bloggers - in a blog.

VISIT THE BLOGGING CRITICS EXCHANGE AND MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD.

Lenn.... I don't have much to add, just supporting your group. You make some good points. And I like what Maureen McCabe at mentioned in her comment.  Especially her first paragraph.... this can be so true.

I put the "Blog chant" to the music of Hey Jude.

I love Beatles music.

You are right.  There is a wealth of information on this blog. AND it brings in a lot of business.  This blog is priceless, and fun.

I'm SO glad you wrote this.  A featured blog that a read this morning has had me upset all day.  You may have read it, but I won't name names here.  But your blog completely contradicts his and I totally agree with you.  I don't want to be critical of fellow bloggers.  Yes, some are better than others.  But AR is a place where we all have a voice and a forum to use as we choose.  Thanks again for the post!

Lenn -- your keen insight has inspired the rainer to rain in on this topic.  There a lot of blogs that are just plain bogged down -- and then their are some that are truly inspirational -- it is sort of like the TV -- if you don't like a blog -- just change the channel.  You made my day!

Esko Kiuru - You are absolutely correct.  But, if I see a super critical blog now, I'll have a place to suggest they go to rather than where I had planned to.

Cyber Caf & Back Porch Conversations, Jay Merton & Medford Ambrose-The Codgers - Yep.  You got it.

Jeff Belonger -- The FHA Expert.com - You are right.  Maureen works generously with her time to encourage and help bloggers.  And she's very good.

Jen Walker. - Thanks Jen.  We probably saw the same blog.  The Codgers did too.  I hope the writer didn't discourage anyone
from contributing.  Shucks.  Who knows.  A new blogger whose writing skills are more pathetic than mine might solve the
mystery of the Google algo and wanted to share it with all of us but were discouraged because of fear of some critic of their
blogging style.

Lenn, I joined the group but I'm kind of afraid to really critique anything. From the tone of the comments here, it sounds like this is just kind of a joke. Are you trying to draw the critic out in me and then stomp me down?  I really don't think many people really want to be critiqued.   I'm usually sarcastic but I'm not certain if this group is being sarcastic or for real.

Should we post things there that we want others to critique for us?

Should we just bitch and whine about things?

Are all the posts there open game for leaving critical comments?

Can we link to specific posts that we would like to use as examples?

If there is one thing I learned here so far is that it doesn't really pay to be critical.

Lenn ~ Didn't blogging originate as an alternative form of communication?  Having rules of what is right/wrong seems to me conforming  something that doesn't want to be tamed.  Of course we need some sort of guidelines, otherwise we have a "free for all".

Having a blogging critic fan club so to speak is a great way to gather all the special people in one place.  Then you can avoid them.

Lenn, I'm glad you liked it. I'll have to go check out that movie sometime. Critics can definitely take things down the tubes if given too much power. I have to admit that in my earliest days of blogging, I found myself criticizing others for grammatical or spelling errors and have since learned to appreciate blogs for their content more than for their formality. I think many times, it is the newbies who don't yet have an understanding of the spirit of blogging that may jump on the criticism bandwagon. Many times, it also seems they're just looking for a topic to blog about and can't come up with anything better than pointing at others' flaws. I still am very particular about my own blogs, spelling and such, but have learned to let others' go.

I have confessed my sins and hope I am forgiven  :)

It's funny, but I now find myself upset by the critical blog posts, such as the one I saw earlier today that I suspect is what sparked this incredibly funny post of yours! By the way, LOVE your drawing above!

Lenn, have no idea what generated this but I assume it must have been a good one...am I to assume that these critics will join the group that you started and vent themselves to death there? If tbat's the case, I wish them all well and may they all have a great venting away. I do feel sorry for you having to monitor such a group...but if there is anyone that can handle that...it would be you.

Enjoyed your post.  Some people are just ruthless, and delight in trying to make people feel inferior.  Insecurity, I guess.

The blog that I assume (and I shouldn't because we all know...) inspired Lenn has an update.  It's been edited to include an example of a BAD blog.  Or maybe it is a BAD blogger... not sure which.  Coincidently the BAD blog is written by a competitor.  Same city, same line of work.  It is just a coincidence though that he chose a competitor to use as an example of BAD blogging... What he pointed out is clearly an ad.  Maybe it is incorrectly categorized?

Steve Dalton - Thanks Steve.  The problem with the critics is that they are usually addressing form, spelling, grammar, etc.
This is a real estate blog, not creative writing.  But, to each . . . . .

Gloria Price Delete   Thanks Gloria.  It's a place for the critics to criticize.

Are you trying to draw the critic out in me and then stomp me down?  I really don't think many people really want to be critiqued.   I'm usually sarcastic but I'm not certain if this group is being sarcastic or for real. Tim.  You are a quick learner.
Should we post things there that we want others to critique for us?  You don't have to go far for a critic to find you.
Should we just bitch and whine about things?   If you do, you'll be sent Critics Exchange where all of the critics can bitch and whine with each other and let the rest of us have some fun and learn about real estate stuff.
Are all the posts there open game for leaving critical comments?  I love it when critics criticize each other.   Maybe I'll have a critics contest.
Can we link to specific posts that we would like to use as examples?  I'm going to comment on critiques and suggest that they join the Blog Critics Exchange
If there is one thing I learned here so far is that it doesn't really pay to be critical.   Nuff said.

Kristal Kraft  Thanks Kristal.  Funny thing about the blogging critics.  They blog critiques about others' blogging, but nothing on the substance of real estate.
I'm hoping to get the blogging critics on the Blogging Critics Exchange so they can criticize each other.

Lenn, where do we exchange the critics, and what can we exchange them for?  Will 10 get us a soda?
Chris Tesch Chris, Chris.  Do you really believe that 10 critics are worth a soda???  Which would you rather have on a hot Saturday afternoon after showing

* * * * have since learned to appreciate blogs for their content more than for their formality. I think many times, it is the newbies who don't yet have an understanding of the spirit of blogging that may jump on the criticism bandwagon. * * *   It's so much more fun enjoying blogs about real estate related matters, adventures of bloggers, seeing photos of bloggers.

I have confessed my sins and hope I am forgiven  :)   WOAH! ! !   I'm not a critic.

Gena Riede,   Thanks Gena.  But, I can't monitor.  That would be considered being CRITICAL.
