According to the Central Penn Business Journal -- one of my favorite local reads -- here are some Christmas and Holiday things to plan for this weekend in the Central Pennsylvania area:
1. Brenda Lee Christmas Show
Brenda Lee proves you can't put an expiration date on talent. The country-pop singer from Georgia became popular with her 1957 hit "One Step at a Time" and has been a star ever since. Lee's powerful voice and cross-genre talents have earned her a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. "Little Miss Dynamite" will perform a holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Strand Theatre in York.
2. "Sounds of the Season" with Lancaster Symphony Orchestra
The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra will perform its second "Sounds of the Season" holiday concerts at the Barshinger Center for the Musical Arts on the campus of Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster.
3. Holiday Concerts at Whitaker Center
Those who have a hankering for all things Christmas can plan to spend an evening, or two or even three at the Whitaker Center's Sunoco Performance Theater in Harrisburg.
4. George Balanchine's "The Nutcracker"
Sugar-plum fairies, toy solders and snowflakes are brought to life in George Balanchine's most celebrated ballet.
5. Kenny Rogers in concert
The holidays are right around the corner and Grammy Award-winner Kenny Rogers is prepared to get you in the Christmas spirit.
6. "2008 Christmas Show"
The American Music Theatre's "Christmas Show" is a seasonal extravaganza of dance, music and comedy that offers the perfect remedy to the holiday blues.
7. "Seven Pounds"
Academy Award nominee Will Smith rejoins "The Pursuit of Happyness" director and producers for an emotional drama that promises to keep audiences guessing until the final scene.
8. "In Venice"
Gallery dePaul's December exhibition "In Venice" brings the essence of Venice to the walls of the Red Rose City.
9. CHRISTMAS WEEKEND: "Santa vs. The Snowman 3D"
Be there when Santa and the Snowman settle their differences - in 3-D. "Santa vs. The Snowman" starts a holiday run at the Whitaker Center's Select Medical IMAX Theater Dec. 23.
10. CHRISTMAS WEEKEND: "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," the highly anticipated film starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, is slated to open Christmas Day in theaters nationwide.
