Suwanee resident Tom McConnel and other local residents are spearheading an effort to scale down the plans of a Korean mega-church expansion project on Smithtown Road.  Armed with photos of traffic congestion created by Crossroads Community Church located on Highway 20 in Lawrenceville and citing safety issues, the residents convinced the Suwanee City Council to postpone any decision on approving the zoning change until the meeting in May of 2007.

The residents are not against the Korean church per say, just the size and design of the facility they are planning to construct.  The Evergreen Presbyterian Church congregation led by Pastor Byungho Kim had submitted a plan to build a 45,000 square foot church with 350 parking spaces.  The congregation has been located in their current location on Suwanee's Main Street for 10 years but now feels like it has outgrown it's current facility and the congregation would be best served by building at the new location.

The church and local residents are trying to come to a compromise that would satisfy all parties concerned.
