We had been warned and yes, it was here when we woke up this morning.

The snow storm predicted for Grand Rapids is here. We have 6- 10 inches

of snow falling last night and today, at about 1-2 inches an hour. All schools

and some public buildings are closed.  Roads are snow covered, visibility is OK.

Just thought you might like to see a few pictures of our stormy weather.

This is how far Miss Kitty decided to go this morning to do her ablutions.  As you can see

see, she did not venture off the step.  Can't say I disagree with her.

Oh my!  You weren't kidding about the layers I am going to need.  Yikes, better get shopping!

Hey Chris, you only need to be covered for a few minutes while you dust off your car and get to where you are going. A lot like hot climates, where you skip from air conditioning to air conditioning. We don't spend a lot of time out of doors when it is blowing snow and really cold.

But I would bundle up, you can always take layers off.....

Hi Bonnie...I remember when I lived further north that you better be prepared for Christmas in advance because you never knew if the weather would put a halt to your shopping.  Although it always amazed me how everything seems to shut down but the malls.

Wow Bonnie, it is easy for me to say this but...how beautiful!  There is something so silent and peaceful about the snow.  Thanks for sharing these with us!

Kate: That is so true....you might get stuck and not be able to go shopping....a fate worse than ...?

Our Christmas shopping is pretty much over, but it is wise to stock up on staples, like chocolate and

potato chips, in the winter, you never want to get caught without.

I used to work at the Mall and it was "historic" if they closed. I guess we were supposed to follow the snow plow home.

Yes I did have to shovel this morning and just as I finished the driveway the plow came and filled up the end of the driveway again.

Brrrrrrrr Bonnie! It's winter! We've been blasted out west also, with unusual cold several days; -29C - those kittens are smarter than we, as we go trudging off in many layers, through the mist of our breath.....

Diane: Thanks, I do enjoy looking at the snow.....it is so beautiful, we are getting more today!

Deborah: Not that cold here yet!! Just blowing snow and more snow today. I have a roast in the oven and thinking about making gingerbread...cold weather always make me want to bake something...

Simply gorgeous! I was just thinking this morning when I woke up and looked outside a large picture window in our bedroom how pretty it would look with snow on our hill...then i looked down at my three little dogs and decided it was good thing there was non.  There is no way I could convince Tootsie, Petey and Homer to go out side if it was one degree colder!

Kym: The snow is very beautiful but Miss Kitty has a tough time when it gets deep. Her legs are about 3 inches long, so it doesn't take much for her to be out of her depth!! Terry has to shovel a spot in my front garden for her to go. She makes her outing pretty darn quick when it is cold, as it is today.

I was all nice and warm because it's 72° outside right now, but your pictures just made me shiver. Don't worry, though, I'll warm up again quickly. LOL

Best wishes for health, happiness, peace, and prosperity in 2009.

Hi Bonnie, WOW, that's a lot of snow!   Better you than me.    I grew up in Portage (next door to Kalamazoo). We had a huge blizzard, then everyone was snowed in in the late '70's. On the 2nd snowed in day I decided to ride my black Morgan horse to the store a couple of miles away. I called a few of the neighbors to see if anyone was out of staples- you know, bread, milk or baby food. Someone wanted me to pick up candy. Another neighbor wanted cigarettes! Needless to say, they didn't get them! My horse (and best friend) Laddie plowed his way through the chest deep snow all the way to the store and carried me back home safely. Of course he got extra apples that day. Thanks for the memory. Many of my family live on the west side of Michigan, in Mattawan, Lawton, w. Kalamazoo. Like you, they have all had way too much snow and it was all before New Year's! Be well.   The Horse Girl ~ Marian

Marian: Extreme weather does make an impression. I remember the blizzard in '78.  My hubby and our neighbor got stir crazy after 3 days and walked to town (about 3 miles) for essentials like cigarettes and lettuce.  It took 5-6 days for them to get the plows to our area and it was too deep to walk around in.
