A couple of weeks ago I rushed out of the house to bring my son to a nature class and planned to call in to the Active Rain Radio show with host Brad Andersohn.  But a few minutes before the show was going to start I discovered that I had left the phone number to call in on at home.

I called a couple of Active Rain members but they did not have the number either. I was wondering what to do when all of a sudden the thought jumped into my head, " You can Twitter the question."

So I sent out a Tweet that said, "Does anyone know the phone # for AR radio show today?"

In less than a minute, Elizabeth Nieves replied to me with the phone number! Amazing fast service! A few minutes later Kathy Toth had left me a message on Plaxo with the phone number because she had read my Tweet.

You can use Twitter as a quick search engine. Whenever you have a question just post your question! It is that simple. Instead of going to a search engine and asking a question only to receive pages of results to scan through looking for your answer, you can just ask your question and answers will flow direct to you. How simple and wonderful is that!

If you want to know where a great restaurant is in a new town you are visiting, what the weather is like where you are heading to solving issues you may be having with your computer or your blog.

You can ask for instant feedback on articles you have written or business decisions you are about to make.

Expanding your network of those within your field as well as those in different fields creates opportunities for new growth and expanding your knowledge in other areas of interest to you.

I have met some really intelligent and wonderful people that have nothing to do with real estate but with whom I can relate to such as other coaches, Internet marketers, moms who homeschool and writers.

One of the people I follow is SethSimonds. He was homeschooled by his mom. He sent out a tweet about a very nice writer who is a blogger. She was having a little poetry contest and he sent out a tweet about it. I found Julie Roads through him. Her site is wonderful and I quickly made up a poem for her contest. She answered me back right away thanking me for the poem. What a wonderful way to meet new people and to develop yourself as a person more. I am now a new subscriber of Julie's blog in my Google reader. A post is coming soon on how you can use Google reader for more than just reading.

Julie just wrote an article about using Twitter for business growth. One of the comments was from Paul, @retroriver  who is from Austrailia. This Aussie put a link to the Aussie Twitter group- how cool is that. Now I am following him. He made a very insightful comment. He said that right before he goes to bed at night his friend in Chicago is just waking up. He finds out through Twitter what the weather is like and when she wakes up she has a tweet from him telling her there is heavy snow and the roads are dangerous and a mess. Is this just so amazing or what!

You will find great tweets that have links to articles that are quite thought provoking and cover the entire scope of areas we all need to grow in; business, personal, spiritual, political, and economically.

As Twitter continues to grow, more people will begin to use Twitter instead of Google for their queries because the instantaneous of Twitter can be even faster than Google. If you are not on Twitter you are missing the boat! Follow me on Twitter at Twitter.com/CoachKaterina.

Julie's current post about Twitter is excellent... 'Glad to find her through you.  As to Twitter, I'm posting occasionally, but haven't yet gotten into the two-way communication... I suspect that's where I need to be to really see the value.

Katerina - I completely agree about using Twitter as a quick resource.  It's great for that!  I still haven't managed to dial into AR radio even one time.  I am going to go put it on my calendar for this week.

@CoachKaterina- I completely agree with you! I find news ways to use Twitter everyday. Not only is Twitter a great resource, but the applications that are made to coordinate with Twitter are great too. For example with Teetdeck I can group the people I follow by Virtual Assistants, Realtors in my local area, small business marketers, AR friends which allows me to keep them organized and follow them better. Last night we were having all sorts of fun with followers on ther West Coast. P.S. I have even gotten to know you better..I am a former home schooler myself, so I love that about you:)

This artical was very informing. I join twitter last March, but never looked at it agin until yesterday. I finished my profile etc. I am hearing many stories as yours. I want to make it work for me. Hopefully in my realestate business. Thanks for the great story.

Twitter can be a valuable resource when used correctly. My peeve is some people talk all day about trivial matters. But then some people are REALLY interesting! Thanks Kat!

Katerina,

I'm guilty because I am on twitter but rarely use it...I have way too many other networks to keep up with and I find it hard to believe many people really care what I'm doing anyway. But I guess if someone gets benefits out of it then go for it.

This is very interesting. I am new to twitter and would not have thought to pose a question but it makes so much sense to do so. And I would have guessed Elizabeth would be the one to come to your rescue with the phone number. She rocks. Thanks you for letting reminding us we have a valuable tool at our fingertips.

Katerina.... so I guess Twitter is like the next "text" message on cell phones?  lol  But I can see how true this could be. My problem is that I just don't have the time to play on twitter. I am usually on and off in 10 minutes. I know I need to work it some, but you could spend hours on it. Besides, I would have to keep watching the screen for new tweets, right?  And if so, how do you work on anything else, right?

Thank you everyone for your comments and keep them coming. We are in the middle of getting things ready for Nestor's son and daughter are spending a week with us starting on Monday from San Antonio. Lots to do, guest rooms need to be cleared out of junk stations, bought new sheets, etc, housecleaner is here cleaning, getting gifts wrapped, etc. so I will be back to return comments tomorrow night mostly.

Jeff- You can download TWIRL for free and it will keep track of tweets for you. I don't have time either. I keep Twirl opened up and it pops up with the tweet of those I follow. That way if I want to respond or chime in I can, it is just like having Google chat or Skype open. Then 3 times a day I add something of value for my followers, a saying, a quote, a question, etc. I can see how  a mortgage broker can get some good business from this form of networking.

Mortgage Banker... lol   Just had to chime in and say that...  lol  There is a difference... ;o)  And my broker friends will hate me for saying that... but seriously, yes, I can see the marketing aspect of it... I just need to do it and stay consistant.  But with the holidays and business, that will have to wait after the first of the year.  Besides, I still owe you cards... and need to follow up with Jacqueline Oddo and your buyers agent Lisa Schlitz.

I am assuming that the landlord is not going to let her out of her lease without a bad credit rating and that is why she has not come down to look for a house with Lisa. They got along great and we look forward to helping her find a home.

Everyone- Just checking in after my housecleaner just left, still have to put a bed together and some other household things, sorting things and putting them on Freecycle so others can have some toys for Christmas.

For all of you who made comments about how you find Twitter strange, well, so did I. Missy told me about Twitter a long time ago. I went and put up my profile than did not do anything. I felt wierd stepping into someone I did not know's conversation with my 2 cents. I also felt wierd about lurking. But on Twitter it is OK to lurk! I think most people think it is strange until you get used to it and then see it's value.

Thom and Ray- Download the free TWIRL.org. This will pop up on your computer whenever someone you are following tweets, it shortens URLs and you can group those you follow in multiple interfaces that pop up for you.

For my Blackberry I use Twitterberry. You can tweet online right from your phone with different phone applications, like there is one for the Iphone, another one for the Trio.

Jeff- I have a blackberry and use twitterberry. I don't use it much from my phone since I work from home and  I am home in my office here 90% of my time. So I use Tweetdeck on my desktop and Twirl on my laptop which are open all the time and I work on multiple computers and screens at the same time. I don't text or tweet much from my phone because my thumbs hit more than one key so much ( I only have had my blackberry since Nov of this year) and that gets frustrating and takes too long.
