The ActiveRain team rarely sleeps or vacations. Today, I'm pleased to announce the happy marriage of Listing Router and Localism. Here's how it works:

You sponsor a Localism city or community: You can now login to your Localism account (https://localism.com/account) and assign a "Listing Router URL" for any city or community that you've sponsored. Simply click on a sponsored location in the sidebar (on the right) and scroll down. You'll notice a new component (pictured below, Figure 1). Provide the URL to your IDX site; it'll be displayed prominently on the relevant city or community page (Figure 2).

(Figure 1: The new Listing Router URL box in your "My Account" Localism screen)

You run Listing Router campaigns on ActiveRain: You don't have to do anything! Your existing campaigns will run automatically on Localism, immediately and dramatically increasing your exposure to consumers. The invitation to view homes in the local area is both bold and decisive; see for yourself in Figure 2.

Frequently Asked Questions

I'm sponsoring a city/community in Localism and have assigned a Listing Router URL. Will I have to share clicks with people sponsoring Listing Router campaigns for the same area on ActiveRain?

No — the sponsor of a city or community on Localism will receive all clicks for that area.

Will I be charged per click for traffic generated from my sponsored Localism city/community?

No — the potentially unlimited traffic generated from your sponsored locations is included as part of your monthly fee.

Enjoy! I'm excited about the future of Localism and ActiveRain! (mostly because I have access to the "master" whiteboard that holds the blueprint for these coming months… it's going to be a roller-coaster ride!)

Is it up and running?  I went looking for it in Ohio and could not see it.  Is Localism fixed? Still looks like nothing Local has posted to Localism since 12-12-2008.

Rock on !  I will go to Localism right now and update the 6 communities/neighborhoods that we are sponsoring.  On a side note, I have noticed that our paid listing router traffic has skyrocked in the past 2 weeks or so....interesting : )

Great new feature Keep up the good work.

We concur with maureen gabe above btw. Nothing new has been posted since 12/12 and any changes made to posts on Ar aren't updated.

I just added the links for 7 sites... it is now showing up in Philadelphia which is great but not in the subdivisions that I sponsor (Northern Liberties, Old City, Fishtown, Center City...etc).  Does it take a little bit of time ?

Will this create a new "Land Rush"?

"You run Listing Router campaigns on ActiveRain: You don't have to do anything! The invitation to view homes in the local area is both bold and decisive; see for yourself in Figure 2."

I see it in Philly.  I don't see it on the cities I sponsor in Ohio but I do have Listing Router campaigns on AR.

Jorgen wrote  "You sponsor a Localism city or community"  will it be on all levels below city? If I sponsor a neighborhood will there be a button on my sponsorship page?  Christopher or Stephanie wrote "not in the subdivisions that I sponsor (Northern Liberties, Old City, Fishtown, Center City...etc)."

How about "communities" that are more abstract? Maybe that is not the word, for example Cheryl Johnson sponsored a USC community.  Or was it UCLA?  Someone on the staff (I think) wrote a post about communities that are not geographic but are local. Or maybe Cheryl wrote one.

For Cheryl's community (it is USC)  will there be a

"View USC Homes for sale" button

I just set up my URL..SO easy to do.  It isn't showing up yet....I'm assuming work is still being performed?

When I hit the Huntsville button, it took me to a "Just listed" sponsored click, when I'm the paying sponsor.  Will this be removed, I hope?  Seems like competition from another agent, when I'm paying for that area.

Thanks great idea. I am looking for more indexing on my localism posts. I had to go add my URL to the communities I sponsored. No worries they are all working. I wanted to check before I  commented.

One issue:  The logo FIND HOMES is cut in half on all of them.

Is the listing router just a link to the sponsors website?  I am not sure I understand completely.  I do not sponsor my area that I am active in - will the listings that I place on activerain be advertised under the sponsored person homes for sale?

Jorgen, awesome post - thanks for the tip!  Just went and updated my listing router links on my sponsored communities.  This is a great bonus to sponsoring a community!  Think they'll raise prices now?

Unless you have an MLS that works like ours - this one will have me leaving the rain as soon as somone steps up - and most likely deleting every localism post I ever wrote - I am so pissed - at the lack of fairness and how everything is about the all mighty dollar - have a real special day

Listing Router sounds great, but Localism is still not working - all posts seem to be from 12/12.

1:33pm • #29

Thanks for the helpful comments. Let me address a few issues:

Find Homes button not being displayed on communities: This has been fixed!

Find Homes button being cut-off: We're aware of the issue and are working on a fix.

Posts not making it to Localism: We are (painfully) aware of this issue and are working to fix it ASAP.

Some of you also brought up great questions individually:

Maureen: Right now, you assign a Listing Router URL for every city or community that you sponsor – a Listing Router URL for the city doesn't trickle down to the community. We wanted to give agents the maximum flexibility in guiding consumers to relevant listings.

Elizabeth Ramsey Cooper: Once you login to your Localism account and provide a brief region description along with a few optional links and/or a Listing Router URL, only your IDX site will receive traffic for that area.

Neal Bloom, Jim & Maria Hart: We're still working on the best way to bring listings from ActiveRain to Localism.

Jay Robbins: The "Listing Router URL" is only meant to direct consumers to your IDX site where they can view listings. Anything else is considered an abuse of the feature.

Pat Baker: Two of the links you provide must be non-commercial, and we've found that consumers were looking for a clear, easy way to find homes in an area. The integration between Localism and Listing Router solves that problem and provides additional exposure for you and your listings!

Jo, Your supportiveness towards what we are doing is appreciated by everyone on our team. I would like to talk with you after the Christmas break and see what we can do to make this right for you.  You should be recognized and rewarded for your support of the network.

Jorgin.  I understand this ..that is is important to get the information to protect your territory what the problem for me is in western Pa ( Pittsburgh area) with the West Penn Multi-list controlled by local brokers we as Realtors ARE NOT allowed to link to our multi-list or the IDX capibilities that the multi-list offers.  If we have our own sites we are not even allowed to frame the multi-list

In this situation I can only access my page on my company site.  do I then understand this will not work for me?  If we can not take  advantage if the IDX and multi-list Then does this give rights to Market leader to capture those leads and what are my options...thanks I really need to clear this up

Jorgen- I have a Listing Router campaign and a Localism sponsorship for Westport, CT.  When I go to the Localism page, I do not see the View Homes for Sale box.

I signed in and did not see the new component to provide the URL to my IDX site.  Thanks, I could use some help.
