Motivation, Why Bother? Then it came to me.  I looked at my past, some of the careers I held, and what I learned from all them in my endeavors.  In almost every job and position (National Sales Trainer, Retail Store Manager, Wholesale Distributor Territory Manager), the common thread I loved about each was the training aspect.  Not just teaching product knowledge, but the whole 'how to sale' and 'motivation' techniques I presented.  These are topics I find myself using everyday in my career as a Realtor.  I still do training and motivation, but these days instead of 15 to 100 people at a time, it is mostly for that one great listener, me.  However, I sure do enjoy having an audience. Nothing I will bring up is new, or revolutionary.  Motivation has been written about in thousands of books and articles, talked about at thousands of seminars, and watched on thousands of conference room VCR's.  That being said, then why bother?  Four reasons - 1. To keep me motivated by remembering all the skills I picked up in 20 years of sales and management so I can be the best Realtor my clients ever had; 2. Maybe, just maybe someone will be refreshed themselves and look at their day just a bit more enthusiastically and be the best in their endeavors;  3. Someone, somewhere, may not have heard, read or watched anyone on sales and motivation, and will pick up a few pointers; 4. Lets face it, I dont know it all, maybe only a hint of it, so I hope to truly learn something new that in its own right will be motivating.I don't plan on doing this alone.  I hope to get Ideas. Topics. Feedback.

As a finish for this entry, I wanted to put out this little thought, which I credit back to my Dad, “‘Can’t’ Never Did Anything!"  I have used this all my life.  It is pretty much my Motto, and how I have always approached dealing with clients and potential clients.  It motivates me to take reasonable risks in my personal life.  Before I let fear take hold, I remind myself of this, and plunge ahead.  What is your motto that keeps you going?

I spent the first three years of my life in "Cando" North Dakota.  It is not only knowing that I "can do" something--it is important that I am in the job that makes me "want to."

Whether you think you can or think you can't - you're right. Attitude is huge.

An old addage that I referr to often is:

A reasonable man will look at the world and accept it the way it is.  An unreasonable man will shape the world to fit his whims.  All great innovations and human advancements were made by men that would not accept the world as reasonable men saw it.

I find my most valued learning experiences have been when I was trying to teach or motivate others.

I've never been the corporate type but one of the big takeaways for me when I attended this year's CENTURY 21 convention was the overwhelming sense of "you can, too."

Sometimes the top producers seem to be cut from a different cloth than the rest of us, especially when you're a newcomer trying to stay afloat. Seeing that they're not some higher being, just (in some cases) a harder worker, was an eye-opener.

Darren:

I really liked this Blog! So...as Real Estate goes...it is easy for some to lose their motivation. If they have never been in sales before it normally leads them into throwing in the towel. What you do is wonderful. Where were you when I was "A Rookie"? But...hey...I did read all the books.
