Social Media Is Not Just About Real Estate

By
Real Estate Agent with eXp Realty LLC 0225227139

I'm very comfortable with exploring social media sites such as FaceBook and Twitter Etc... I have started to begin to impliment new ideas for a blog for Central Virginia or two I have recently created outside of Active Rain.  I am not an expert but I know enough to know that this what I need to be doing for sure.

So I was twittering and picking up a few interesting links here and there and someone asked about some information about a concert flute and a marching flute.  Most folks don't know the difference but since I had been in the music business forever I was able to give her my opinion and some advise.

We did some more chatting and WALA a connection.  Now it may or may not be profitable but I know I was helpful and everyone that follows me and that follows her now knows me and knows I was helpful.  I'm sure there were a few that clicked on my profile to find out what I do and learn more about me because that is how it works.

As it turns out both this person and I belong to an organization called SendOutCards.  Which is another organization I am passionate about.  Look for more information in another post.

My point is that through social media you never know who you will meet and who you can help.  But those of you not taking the opportunity to explore this will never know.  Actually it is a very small world.

Nannette-I see you have a shiny yellow star up there :)  Nice going.....now as to calling you....I am still trying to figure out how to get my AR on Technotori (sp?)   Here's my Birthday and Christmas Wish List:

1.  I want to know where to get the Twitter and Facebook icons to put on my AR Profile and outside Blog

2. I want to know once how you found popel only in your area on Twitter

3.  I want to know what coffee shop you and John Luster go to .....my new friend on Twitter thanks to you :)

Anyway......I have really enjoyed my Social Networking, and it has given me a ton of new ideas for business.  Ok again, and I will be back for my answers...I do better with seeing them in writing LOL :)

Nanette--I am always looking for a way to connect with people. When you find a connection, they open up and want to work with you. I have been skeptical about Facebook as a way to connect but your experience is eyeopening. For you, music is a great way to connect...Hope it works out for you and thanks for pointing out ways to make these social networks WORK!

Nannette, excellent point and excellent posts.  The social media does provide an excellent venue and media to make those connections.  If it turns into business, great.  If it does not, great.  It is just great to be out there and I believe over the long term, it will certainly come back to the business person in beneficial ways in terms of additional business, name exposure, reputation, etc...

AS far as Twiiter is concerned- how do you find the time to chat with people? Between phone calls, walk-ins, and computer, some days it's all I can do to get my work done.

Hi Nannette...Congratulations on the feature.

Active Rain is one example of how accurate your topic is.  After all, many of us are here for the friendships we are creating as well as the real estate information we are gaining.  The information would be pretty dry after a while if we didn't have some faces to put with it.

Although I am signed up for Twitter and Facebook I haven't really jumped in yet.  It amazes me how so many of you find the time for all of these sites.  Maybe it's your youth!

Nannette- Never before in history has the chance to quickly utilize the 6 degrees of seperation so  powerful as it is in Social media. I have fully embraced it and make wonderful not profit and for profit relationships in all walks of life. I love that I can connect with other homeschool parents around the world and if there is something I am looking for all I have to do is ask. The globe has shrunk with this amazing technology and we ain't seen nothing yet! Katerina

I wrote a post recently on the real estate weenie that twitter is not just for realtors any more. I have spent months connecting with people who live in my area while every day more realtors follow me. I only follow some back because I don't want to give everyone the impression that twitter is just for realtors.
