Highlands Ranch CO Trails - Winter Closures

Starting January 1st 2009 the Wildcat Mountain trail system in Highlands Ranch CO - which by the way is a great trail system - will be closed for the winter, until March 28th 2009.

Over 400 elk live in the land around the trail systems
and in the Backcountry Wilderness Area. The trail system closes each winter to let the elk get through the winter with least amount of human interaction possible.

The Wildcat Mountain Trail system is located
on the East side of Monarch Blvd, just North of Castle Pines North and Daniels Gate.

The Wildcat Mountain Trail system is a wonderful trail system to visit during spring, summer and fall. There are  a few hills to climb (or bike) but over all it is very pleasant.

Here are some photos taken on the trail last summer 2008.

That looks like my kind of trail. High up with a view.

Best wishes for health, happiness, peace, and prosperity in 2009.

Looks like a nice trail to ride.  I used to live in southern CA where we have very similar parks with moderate-to-difficult sections.

Jeff- If you start at the Middle School parking lot near by, the 1st 2 miles is all a climb. Then you have a few choices of trails. To get to the top, a mile or so more easier climb. But then it is all downhill from there LOL. I love to run this trail system.
