In the ever changing face of Real Estate technology has been both a blessing and a curse.
- How many hours have you spent on the computer learning the latest software for becoming a sophisticated up to date Realtor?
- How many hours have you spent on your PDA learning to manage all your client information?
- How long did it take you to get proficient with your smart phone?
Oh, and then comes managing lock boxes, transferring information to your partner and peers. Many of us carry a smart phone, or PDA and cell phone. We keep our laptop handy for those Internet searches. It almost takes two trips from the front door to the car to leave home. Wouldn't it be nice to have everything rolled up into one device?
If you haven't seen Apple's iPhone you haven't seen our next toy. Of course it won't be out until late June. For those who like music, you can throw away your iPodas well. In looking at the iPhone I see one drawback for Realtors. No infrared. In Tucson Realtors rely on infrared technology to mange and open key boxes. I would imagine that the vast majority of Realtors rely on the technology of infrared as well.
I saw this early and wrote to Steve Jobs concerning lack of infrared. The response I received was, "We are not soliciting input at this time." I'm not looking for a patent. I see an advantage to the iPhone. It has the potential as an all in one device that would be an enhancement to Realtors. But, at $499 to $599 a pop (which is reasonable when adding up the cost of a PDA, cell phone, and iPod) I want it to be an all-in-one device. Maybe Apple is making changes, I don't know. I don't have that inside information. If they aren't, how could they ignore millions of Realtors? Not to mention, infrared ability must be a viable need of other businesses. Am I alone in wanting an iPhone? I am curious how many Realtors could use it as an all-in-one device and do away with the hassle of packing multiple technological tools.
Tell me what you think.
