Networking... are you a giver or a taker?

We all know that "times are tough" in all industry groups. The natural inclination of many of us in this circumstance is to "look for new ways" to grow our business. This is I'm sure is the reason we all joined a networking group.

Most of us consider ourselves as; generous, thoughtful and considerate in our professional lives, but are we really?

Networking is a two way street. Have you given as much attention on how you can give referrals to your networking partner?

Take this test and find out...

1.Have you discussed your referral introduction / plan with a your network partner? Or have you just told them what you want?

2. Have you given a referral partner a freebie. Given them an introduction, sent a handwritten note or given them a word of encouragement?

3. Do you take your referral network "with you" and use your referral partners names in your conversations with your clients?

4. Have you taken a referral partners serious enough to consider them a friend? There are no quota on the friends we have in this World

5. Do you push your comfort level in being social?

6. If someone calls you, what percent of the time do you not return the call?

The law of reciprocity is universal. If you are sandbagging your referral partner waiting for them to "produce" then you are the biggest loser.

You will be stealing a brick away from the wall of trust. It may seem trivial to you, but the silent loss of your integrity and reputation weakens your industry and our entire society.
