Is your Dutchess County home scheduled for showing tomorrow?

If your Dutchess County home is scheduled for showing tomorrow you might have spent today shoveling. Two weeks in a row we have had bad weather, first ice, then lots of fluffy snow.

It is important to provide access to buyers however only if the conditions are right.

Here are a few things to keep in mind.

Shovel or plow your driveway or path to the door.
You might need to apply salt or similar products to the driveway to keep it free of ice. The forecast for tomorrow is for lower temperatures, some wind and icy conditions.
Make sure steps are also clean and free of ice.
Provide a mat for people to wipe their shoes.
Providing shoe covers at the front door might be a great idea. Some people have a problem removing their shoe and it would be ashame to have this issue cost you a showing.
Make sure the home is warm.

May your efforts result in a sale before year end.

Lynda that it is, beautiful and cold. Yes marketing in the winterdoes have challenges which mostly can be overcome with some good planning and being flexible.

Yes, make sure that house is warm!!

Hi Jennifer - I will ship all my snow out to Cali for Lynda:) Good tips as it can be a real pain when your are showing if it looks like the buyer could slip and break their neck!

Jennifer, great advise, and you look like you really know how to handle that shovel. How would you like to show me how it is done, by doing my driveway .......... LOL

Hi Jennifer - this is good advice for both the safety of buyers touring houses in the winter, and the protection of sellers' homes and liability.

Jennifer, I would think the liability alone would be enough to get folks to shovel and get rid of the ice. Here in CA we ask sellers to rake their leaves since they too are slippery when wet.

Curb appeal and the warmth of a home for sale in Duchess County with a clear path and ice-free make for a home buyers paradise!

Jennifer- I think that sometimes there's too much to shovel, as in your photograph. Your advice is appropriate, nonetheless. We want to keep our homes as accessible as possible at all times.

Jennifer, it's so interesting how we treat our listings in different parts of the country. I guess having access because of the snow would definitely be important. ;-) Kinda like we suggest that the air conditioning be on during the hot summer. ;-)

I like warm weather but that looks like a lot of fun. It was 82 degrees here today and had to run the a/c yesterday to cool things down. New Orleans did have two hours of snow two weeks ago. It melted by noon but gave everyone something to talk about.

Jennifer this could have been an exact direction on what the people in Lake Arrowhead need to do, so much snow and I can't get anywhere.

We've had nearly 40 inches of snow in Flagstaff in the last two weeks. Some of the driveways of vacant homes on the market at impassable -- and it will be impossible to sell them until they are cleared.

Jennifer~ Nothing like a lot of snow to get a good workout! These are great winter tips. I have to have a shovel in my care during the winter because many of the homes have not shoveled out! You woudl think a seller would want to make sure the buyer could get to the house! It is always interesting in the winter.

Brian Safety should come first, why risk the liability issue.

Terri that is true, our challenge right now is snow and ice.

Eric - The weather can be so varied in different parts of the country. I will agree snow can be fun until you get to the part where you have to use a shovel.

Kim - Snow can certainly block access.

Ann I know what you mean. The snow is one of the challenge we as Realtor have to face during the winter months and without access the property won't sell.

Joan - This time of year does present some issues.
