I have done many closings for borrowers who are visually impaired. I recall one woman who had to use a magnifying glass just to see where the signature line was on the document. Reading the print on the documents was even more difficult. It was a very frustrating experience for her.
Unfortunately lenders are not going to increase the size of the fonts they use on the loan documents. So a magnifying glass is something that I carry, just in case the borrower has trouble reading the loan documents.
But what about an eSign (eClosing)?
If it's hard to read loan documents -- even for people with normal vision, what must it be like to read the print on a computer screen?
An eClosing requires that the borrower sign some of the documents electronically. The computer used will be the laptop computer that the notary signing agent brings to the closing, in most cases.
Is there a way to magnify the screen so that it makes it easier for the borrower to read the print? The answer is 'yes'.
There are many different models of screen magnifiers out there, but they all accomplish the same thing -- magnify the screen. This may not be the kind of expense a notary signing agent wants to incur, just to do eSignings. But it's something to consider.
Maybe changing the screen resolution of the computer would make it larger. Control Panel, Display, Settings. Change to 800 x 600.
