Deferred maintenance, the cold, hard way...

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Professionals.

I was just about to log on this morning when the power went out. This was the type of thing I had expected for the last week of inclement weather. When the weather gets cold and we get several inches of snow our power grid bights the dust.

Our power went out about 11 years ago for 14 days. We were considering whether to remodel our house or build a new one. After that incident, I made the easiest sale of my life occurred. I sold my wife on a home power generator. Fortunately for the next 7 years we never lost power. It seems when you are prepared, you don't need the generator.

That pesky word that always seems to bare its ugly head then occurs, deferred maintenance. After 7 years of bliss our power goes out. I nonchalantly go out to turn our generator on only to find the starter battery dead.

My wife had been bragging that she never had to be cold again and now, nothing and I heard about it.

So I now know all about deferred maintenance and how to take care of this important device. The monthly cycle has done the trick and the unit kicks off without a hitch. I am always telling my clients how important maintenance is and of course I had to learn the hard way.

Next time you here me complain about a client not taking care of the small things please remind me of my own faults...
