There seems to be a huge party going on in my email box and from the looks of it...mine is not the only one.  Recently I have been getting google alerts for many posts...and many that are not my own. It sounds to me like Google Alerts Gone Wild!  I admit..I love it...even if I don't understand it!

My google alerts:

Funny thing, it's not only happening to me but many others.  Someone recently contacted me...yes...she has gotten 20 google alerts for her name but with my posts...not sure how it has happened but I do remember writing about her a few times. I used her name in my tags on a few posts.

The same thing is happening to me...with some of the comments I leave...or posts from the past that someone else has written.  Has google alerts gone wild or is it a glitch?

If its google alerts gone wild...Wayne said it best..Party On!

Merry Christmas Ma'am,

It was good talking with you yesterday!!  I am trying to understand just how Google alrets works, I am finding that there are times when I make comments I get an alert and other times when my name is used I get an alert.  What ever it is good to know that something is working.

Yes, I have noticed the same, Midori...Google Alerts are not working properly!

Happy Holidays,

Midori,

It looks like Google is now also reading the comments. My Google alerts have been nuts for a couple of weeks now.

I have way too many of them...for some reason I'm getting alerts from things that have nothing to do with what I was looking for but some of them are good too.

It's my understanding that the stuff here in the comment is tagged to not show up in search engines though the original posts and signatures on the comments are.

Who knows!  Just enjoy the Google Juice.

My comments are appearing in my google alerts and have been for about 7 or so days if I recall....it is interesting.......but until Localism starts reposting, I am losing ground on Google......

Yes, same thing here.  I noticed it a couple of days ago.  But, I think it's probably a good thing.  The more notice the better.

I have also been getting Google Alerts on comments I have made on other peoples posts. Looks like we are now getting Google Juice when making comments. Another added benefit of ActiveRain.

Midori -  Same here. I've been getting a lot of notifications on posts that are not mine as well as something that seems to be crashing as well when I click on my views. It's saying "Check back in a few minutes. Something is not working". Hope it's all good. Have a Happy Holiday Midori from up in cold cold NJ. Bob and Lisa H

Hi Midori - I've also noticed an increase in alerts, but to me these are 'false alerts.' It is not worth anything to me to get an alert on someone else's recent post just because my name is in their tag list from an old post. Something is wrong with AR or Google, and it needs to be fixed soon!

Hi Midori - 'party on' for sure.  My google alerts gave been going nuts daily, and many of them are on my comments, too.  Some of them, as John noted, are what I'd term 'false alerts', too.  Not sure how that works, but there's a lot of gibberish type stuff showing up with alerts.

Party on!

Hi Midori...It is true.  Google loves us here in the Rain and we're being told over and over again every day.

It's Google's gift to us this holiday season...but maybe it will keep up all year long.

I'm partying too!

Midori, I'm grown so used to wading through dozens of alerts per day that I didn't even notice!  I love them because the intel is priceless.  I hate them because they JUST KEEP COMING...

My Google alerts were accurate until several weeks ago when I started noticing some of the problems that comments above have documented.  I've noticed they are not as useful.  I will stay with them, however, and hope that whatever the problem is - it works itself out.  Merry Christmas.

I have noticed the same thing Midori. I got a google alert 4 minutes after I made a comment on another persons blog! That is just wild.
