10 Comments on Long Distance Slamming alive and well!
Tammy great advice for people to stay on the watch for these culprits. There is someone I am sure on every few calls and I guess they thought that you were one they were having next.
I called my mother and they had been calling her as well.
Thanks for the info and merry Christmas pretty lady!! xxoo
Thanks for sharing Tammy. I appreciate the heads up-Dinah Lee
We recently opened our office and for a couple of months were inundated with callers claiming to be with Qwest and running a similar scam. I did as you die, and locked the account.
Hi Tammy,
Good advice, put a block on your account and go over your statement carefully every month!
I doubt anybody believes you just fell off a turnip truck, Tammy. Good for you for not falling victim to such a scheme. When our phone rings at my house, 99% of the time it's a telemarketer. In fact, it often freaks me out because our landline so rarely rings. I'm like WTF is that? My fax machine rings more often than my home phone.
Susan- you are the sweetest! Have a Merry Christmas.
Dinah- No problem- it actually happened in my office oh about 16 years ago and it was problem getting it changed back... took months.
Tim- Many folks don't know about locking your account. Looks like the phone company would tell you when you get a land line.
Cynthia- Yeah- I learned that lesson the hard way. Was charged for a couple months for web hosting... umm WHAT? before I caught it. Fortunately after a phone call they gave me my money back.
Elizabeth- I keep threatening to get rid of my land line at home, but it's been my number for SO long.
I don't conduct business over the phone or by email with any of my service providers for two reasons:
If it sounds like something I might be interested in, I'll tell them that I'll call my local office and check into it and thank them for the heads up. That usually infuriates them and they hang up on me, saving me the time from having to call my local office since I then know it's a fraud.
Tammy, I had a call just this past week with the same story except they were also going to merge my internet service into one account. I checked with my service provider and they were not doing this type of marketing. So watch out about any phone call.
