Today I had a closing that required me to get on two of the most congested roads in Alabama.  It took me 45 minutes to go three miles.  People are trying to dart across 3 lanes of traffic to get one car length ahead. Rude drivers and just plain wreckless.  Emergency vehicles could not even get through the traffic because people did not want to get out of line.  Let me remind you, it could have been one of your loved ones in need of medical help!!!

It really infuriates me when driver's do not want to get in the long line of traffic waiting to exit and fly up to the very end and push their way into the front of the line.  It also infuriates me when they hold up traffic in the lane they are in waiting for some kind soul to let them over.  It also infuriates me when I get so mad I would like to give some hand gestures and let words fly from my mouth that are not very lady-like.  Satan was working hard to get to me today and he was very close.  I kept my Southern Charm but it wasn't easy!  People need to slow down and allow time to be courteous.

Is it just Alabama driver's or are people rude all over the United States?

I cringe when I have to drive on the Baltimore or DC beltway during rush hour. I assure you the drivers here are far ruder and inconsiderate.

Valerie, I believe ... unfortunately..... SOME people are rude everywhere you go!  Why in the devil (pun intended) are they in such a hurry!?  Never let them bring you down to their level. You did well keeping your Southern Charm! Merry Christmas, Valerie!

Unfortunately there are not kind people everywhere -- it is just a sign of the times we live in . Have a nice holiday season.

Drivers are RUDE EVERYWHERE.  I really like the DORKS blocking the intersections.  So, I can't proceed because YOU need to be a few feet closer to the other 50 cars waiting at the light???!!!  Yes, I do believe that there are stupid, ignorant, OBNOXIOUS people on the roads EVERYWHERE.

Or the ones on the interstate that won't let you merge, cause they just HAVE to get ahead of ya.  Nice.

I think I know where you were today and I empathize. I remember reading a little rag in the city with the headline "You Know You're in Birmingham if..." and one of the items said "the numbers 2, 8 and 0 in sequence make shudders go down your spine".

LOL. I think this is a problem everywhere. My husband is a very inpatient driver. Me, I just sit back and relax. Im in no hurry!

I was driving on the Freeway one day approaching a spot that ALWAYS has a trooper waiting for speeders.  I slowed down to the speed limit in anticipation of being clocked and a car behind me started honking and flashing his lights at me.  He then made an erratic move to the fast lane began putting his middle finger up at me, screaming and them hit the gas.  He had to be going at least 70 (in a 55) before he saw the trooper with his lights on waiting to pull the fool over.  I laughed and waved as I passed him on the side of the road!  That was my justice that day.

Hey hey, Vickie in San Ramon has a good clue about where NOT to drive in Birmingham!  Now Valerie, I can not even imagine YOU losing your temper.  A kind, sweet Southern belle like you?  Darlin you just go home and get you some vapors to calm your silly self down now.

Merry Christmas my friend!

You know, I thought I had escaped all the crazy traffic, but yesterday I made the mistake of driving on 280.  It was about 2:00 and I thought it would be no problem, but YUCK!

People do stuff like that anywhere you go ........ I have travelled up and down the east coast of the United States many times and rude drivers are everywhere..... it is not a regional thing......

Unfortunately the situation you encountered is not solely confined to Alabama. I remember when I lived in NY, on some of the more congested roads, there was a cut off or be cut off mentality. And the driving finger was just as big a part of driving as was the horn!

I had no idea that so many Southern Californians had moved to Alabama. Probably happened when gas got so high here -- LOL.

Best wishes for health, happiness, peace, and prosperity in 2009.
