27 Comments on CAMERA PHONE --do they take good pictures?
Pacita, great pictures! I use the BlackBerry Curve and think the pictures are "acceptable". Actually, I had my settings on high resolution and they always looked blurry. I dropped down the resolution and actually end up with a better picture. You're right, I don't think they will EVER replace an actual camera.
They are so much better but not good enough for the MLS (yet!)...
Nice tree!!
Merry Christmas!
your friend in Charlottesville
I also had a Treo and it took pretty good photos. I just purchased a Blackberry Storm which has a built-in flash. The photos appear to be OK for 3.2 megapixels. I don't think it will replace my digital camera though.
Hi Pacita:
Your photos are pretty good. I think camera phones are get in a pinch!
Pacita - I also thought the tree was a map of google earth, some of the phones have decent resolution, at least good enough for MLS pictures. However, I agree, I like the zoom features of my camera, as well as everything else.
Pacita: If I could remember I had a camera in my phone, I would take pics. One time, I witnessed a hit and run in a parking lot, and (DUH) I was scrambling to write the plate number down. The camera phone would have been a great thing to remember at that moment.
Chris --- as a matter of fact, accidents like what you mention is when a camera phone comes in handy. And in other situations, too. There was a news story in New York about a man pleasuring himself on a subway, in front of some women. One of them took a picture with her phone, and posted it online.
Mike - google earth must look Christmasy. I have to look at it again. :)
Diane -- thanks. Maybe we should start a group featuring the best (or worst) photos taken with a camera phone. I will have to say the worst will be the ones posted on the MLS where they all look grainy.
Michael S.--- I didn't have a Blackberry Storm, but I did have the Curve. I liked the camera in that one...but it still won't take the place of a digital camera. The iPhone is like a Swiss army knife of business tools.
Charles --- I agree. Not good enough for MLS --- although some folks try!
Kris --- I actually think the Blackberry Curve camera had good options of high versus low resolution. Then when I upload the pictures on my computer, I use Microsoft Picture Manager software to edit, etc.
Michael K. --- I think the fact that Blackberry launched its first touch screen phone means more will adopt this as the way to go. I switched from TREO 650 because everytime my cheek touched the phone (which was always) it launched another action.
Mara --- I still have my digital camera, and a Flip phone...but you gotta admit, in a pinch, it's nice to have these capabilities on the phone.
Jeremy --- thanks for the tips.
Norma -- as long as we don't take pictures of rooms in a house, the Blackberry Curve (and the other phones) seem to be fine in close ups. Look at my close up of the tree -- folks thought it was Google Earth.
Michael T. --- Google earth doubles as my tree. Yey!
I am impressed with the photos you got with those phones! it sounds like you have al ot of phones, too! I just bought a digital SLR, adn i gotta say, I love it! great photos, and I haven't even figured out how to use most of the features! i should read the instructions one of these days!
Carol
I change phones, it seems, every 2 years. I loved TREO 650 at first, and then got so tired of it re-setting frequently, while I was in the middle of a conversation. Or, it would do something when my cheek would accidentlaly touch the screen while I'm on a call.
I didn't think I'd like the Blackberry Curve because it didn't have a touchscreen. But I loved the keyboard. However, compared to the newest edition of iPhone, it had limitations. I must admit, though, that I think the camera feature on that phone may be better than iPhone's.
Then I was lured by the many applications available on the iPhone. And when my company had a special contest wherein winners would get iPhones, I used that as an excuse to get the iPhone 3G. I gave my Blackberry to my significant other, to whom its features are wasted. He simply uses it to make/receive calls!
Pacita,
I too think our phones aren't too great at super pics...but they sure are handy in a pinch. I was given coach's tickets...best in the house...of course, I forgot my camera...so glad I had my phone. Here is my picture...
Pacita,
OOPS! Forgot to tell you the cool thing I learned my phone could do last night thanks to the articles you sent me off to.... You can easily do a print screen or image capture by first pressing down the home button and then second clicking the on off button on the top..it will go to pictures. Try it and see how cool this is...Here is a capture of my website
Pacita- I still my my treo 650, and I think I am the only person in the world that has had no problems with it! I keep giving my upgrades to my kids, so I guess I will keep going with it!
Lori ---- really good picture, and cool tip! You're getting to be a iphone master,
Carol --- I loved the Treo 650 (I've had Palm Pilots since the 90s so it was hard to give up it up out of loyalty to Palm) but after 2-3 replacements because there was always something wrong, I surrendered, and switched.
Hi Pacita,
Very nice pix of some great looking dogs! I'm sure my cell phone can't match your quality.
I have a verizon phone and the pics are okay. I would not use them for MLS.
Bruce -- thanks. The camera in a phone is still a good-to-have feature. Still need to use the digital camera for serious photos. :)
Angelia -- yep. Digital camera for MLS, still.
Have a Happy and a Prosperous New Year!
While my iPhone will never replace my Nikon D60, it sure is a lot more handy, since I always have it in my picket, and my Nikon wouldn't fit in any pocket. I take so many pictures, I find myself using my iPhone more & more. Some day I'm sure we'll see many of the upgrades we'd like in our camera phones, but for now, we'll just have to find that balance between convenience and real high quality pics.
Ryan
I've been taking a lot of pictures with the iPhone...and although they may be a little grainy (can't complain, though...my first digital camera had the same resolution), I'm not complaining too much because I have my higher resolution camera anyway.
And yes... the convenience alone of having a camera phone is a big plus! My old Razor didn't do that!
Brian, you're absolutely right. It's a nice-thing-to-have, but not the-only-thing-to-have.
