I was in the store shopping yesterday and went to pay for my purchases.... the salesman started asking me a handful of questions. Do I have their credit card, would I like to receive the store specials, my E-mail address, my Zip code, do I need a gift Card? If I apply for this I can save 20%. Does anybody remember when you walked up and gave them you items, handed them the cash and got your stuff? I believe these days are gone? Well, Merry Christmas to All and a Happy New Year!

Funny, I was just thinking about that the other day when I had to put in my zip code (in the pouring rain) to purchase gas at a self serve.  Merry Christmas to you!

I always say no to all the above and pay cash...EXCEPT for one store that I used to like A LOT in my 20's & 30's...then went through a divorce, moved overseas for a few years, came back and, because some of my payments (due to intl. mail) had been late, they closed my account---forever! So, at that store only, when they ask if I would like to save 20% for APPLYING for a charge card, I say sure, but please don't call in if they don't approve it---and they reassure me that I'll get discount just for applying. So now I can love this shop more than ever, and save 20% everytime I shop...and the girls don't mind, because they get the credit for trying to sign me up (it was their idea, in fact)..Strange but true. Happy Holidays!

Darin, very true. The store clerks are getting as bad as telephone solicitors. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your Family.

Oh so true Darin.  They want to get their hooks into you, join their club, frequent shopper etc.   Come to think of it, something I try to do with my customers also!

Very True - it is very difficult to just lay down cash and walk out unsolicited - for sure.  So when they ask me I tell them I would be happy too if they would not mind telling everyone they know about my Real Estate Services.  They are being pressured by their bosses and upper management is pushing the bosses - The district manager is pushing the upper management and so on.

But when you are in a hurry and when I am not feeling like a chatty Cathy - it is rather irritating.

My BEST - Great point

You gota love the world we're building. Nothing is sacred or a secret anymore. Most of the stores I shop at, key in my name and tell me more about me than I even know. One even helped my letting me know what sizes I bought last year for my wife, my I hope they fit.

So many stores have "rewards cards".  I decided if I was going to keep up with all those cards that a needed a second purse is needed.  No thank you, just a way to get your email so they can be one of many to send their "specials".  When I pay with cash the cashiers sometimes get so confused in giving out change.  If you don't use a skill, you lose it so I guess with the convenience of the credit card we have dummy down the simple skill of easy math.

Darin - very funny, very true! It does seem like every retailer these days needs a blood sample before they sell you something - ridiculous!
