A new year, a new start...

By
Real Estate Agent with Atlanta Communities 303302

I remember last year this time when I said to anyone that would listen, Good riddance to 2007, and welcome 2008! I was ready to move on from a moderately successfull year in Real Estate to what had to be a much better 2008. Well, all I have to say is good riddance to 2008 and welcome 2009!

This past year was a tough one. Fewer buyers were buying and sellers wanted to believe that their home was the only one on the block that increased in value. But you know what, it was a great year to hone my skills and come up with new and better ways to do things!

I was able to learn to produce digital movies for all my listings. I was able to get 3 listings from a new expired program I developed. My networking group added 3 referrals which turned into sales. All in all, not to shabby, except for the fact that I sold less than the year before.

In times when business slacks off, this is when you need to kick in the afterburners! I see too many agents throw their hands in the air and say to all that will listen, I am going to take a break until business gets better. Well, I plan on working hard through the tough times and when business comes back I will be first in line to get the new business.

So, for 2008, a not so fond goodbye. For 2009, I can't wait to see how my newly acquired skills serve me in the new year! So to all of you taking a break until business comes back, get out there now! You can help the business come back! For all of us who never stopped pushing...Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year!!

I think most everyone is thinking about the same way. I have manage to survive albeit through my rental dept., sales down about 70% but I looking forward to 09 also. I would say it can't get any worse but I said that in 07 and I think for most it will get worse.

Peter,

Every year has its successes and its challenges. Glad you developed some new skills. Now, on to 2009. :)

Peter - I agree. I said the same thing heading into 2008, and frankly, one of my best months was November, and I'm busy right now, so I'm really looking forward to a fabulous 2009!

It's good to see you are sticking with it even though it's tough!  This year has been difficult here as well but we are still closing property and keeping ourselves busy.  The busier you keep yourself the busier you will stay has been holding true in Myrtle Beach at least.  Good luck to 2009 and I welcome it and all the business to come.
