Hi All,

Let me start by saying that I LOVE BEING A REALTOR!  I know they say that some folks see the profession ranking somewhere between Snake Oil Salesman and Used Car Dealer.  But, thus far I have seen none of that.  I have never felt so wanted, needed or valued in all of my professional life.

Never before have I found myself drowning in the sea of bountiful riches that are the affiliate gifts.  Pens shaped like houses that light up when you write (I lost that one to my hubby when he realized that if he used the pen to write out the dots and dashes that make up Morse code, he could flash his message with blue light while it was being written with blue ink), date books and street guides and key-chains and coffee mugs.  Puzzles and chip clips and post-its and pads.  More swag than I have seen in many a moon and I am a veritable Queen of Swag!

All this just for doing my job, not for doing my job well, or doing my job often, rather just for doing my job at all.

And let's talk about the general public, shall we?  When I introduce myself as a Realtor I have seen them brighten a bit and ask the age old question: "How's the market?"  Suddenly, for the first time in my adult life, I am being asked adult business questions, to which I know the answer (I feel like a grown-up!).

I am beginning to wonder why I never found this field sooner...

Take care all, help lots of people and have a wonderful day!

Hi Tisza,

Nice post.  I just found a bag of schwag from NAR 2003 when I organizing the other week.

It's funny, the tech schwag is so popular in the Bay Area that a few developer friends of mine started a care package subscription service call ValleySchwag, but had to end it after the 6th round.

From their site:

"We thank you for your patience and loyalty. And we wish we could keep bringing you all the schwag your hearts desire, but alas, we’ve found that acquiring THAT MUCH SCHWAG is really really hard. But thanks to Valleyschwag and all of you we’ve been inspired to do our part in bringing better customer service to the world. Be watching in May for our beta release of Satisfaction [getsatisfaction.com] and check out our blog now at blog.getsatisfaction.com"

also, is it swag or schwag?  i think it's a regional thing.  kinda like soda & pop.

Hi Andy and Gary,

Andy - I think you are right, it must be a regional thing...

Gary - Be still my heart... dare I hope for... RealtorLand?  I can see it now, little costumed buyer's and seller's running from big, bad property inspector and the evil FICO.  But the brave and trusty Realtorman (generic term applied simply for ease of typing, no gender bias intended or implyed) will protect them with the secret weapons in their trusty briefcase.  Let's see, we could have the escrow coaster - wildest ride you've ever taken... and Lenderland where nothing ends up costing what is says it will... Oh, I could go on with this for days...

Take care all, have a wonderful day and help lots of people!

Tisza, dear, after more than a quarter of a century in this biz, my undying gratitude would belong to the lender rep/title rep/escrow rep who removed some of the bountiful cr#p OFF my desk, not to the one who contributed more.  :-)

Tisza if you like that stuff - chocolates in the shape of houses, plastic business cards with magnifying lenses built in, and calendars galore - then you MUST (absolutely must) go to the NAR convention. You will think you've died and gone to heaven :)

Great post, as always!

Hi All,

Cheryl - I feel your pain :-)  And when I have reached twenty years in the business, I might feel the same way, but now it is still just fun and a novelty around my neck of the woods.  My family and friends think this is the coolest job just because I get free pens and such, don't tell them that at some point I will also get paid... the longer they think that I am just in it for the office supplies, the better...

Mary - I am so there! Chocolate houses?  Really? Now how do you do an accurate comp for that?  I will go to the next convention that I can attend.  I also love conventions in general (big suprprise, huh) and am a sucker for the shopping.  I came home from the Keller Williams Family Reunion (our company's annual convention) with a suitcase and other assorted bags full of nonsense.  I also met a gazillion people and expanded my referral network nationwide.  Loads of fun.  I can hardly wait to go again next year.

Take care all,

Tisza

Tisza your excitement about real estate reminds me of the look in my kid's eyes on Christmas morning as they look under the tree to see what Santa and the Reindeer have left.  It's really refreshing to see someone with that much enthusiasm. Route 66 Living is your Oyster! Go find that pearl!

Hi Kaye,

Do you promise?  Because my husband is currently checking to see if Promises has a twelve-step program available that would cover this for me.  I told him that I would be happy to check in as long as I get a t-shirt out of the deal...

Take care, help lots of people and have a wonderful day!
