How many times have you sent out a messages through Outlook only to regret hitting the "SEND" button? In the past, I had many regrets but have figured out that all is not lost when you get to know the email client program you are using on an intimate basis. Yes, knowing what your program is capable of doing and how to save your butt from sending out those regrettable emails.

Well, now is the time to get personal with MS Outlook 2007. It has a feature that will allow you to recall messages sent out as long as the recipient hasn't opened the message. If the recipient has, it will give a message recall notification.

  1. Open the "SENT" message
  2. Select Actions
  3. Select Other Actions
  4. Select Recall Message
  5. Select from the two options
    1. Delete all unread copies of the message, or
    2. Delete unread copies and replace with a new message
  6. Check the box to notify you of all success and failures

That's it, very easy to do. If it is too late, the best thing to do is send out a retraction email to cancel out the previous email.

Carolyn, Thanks for the great tip! I can think of a few times I would have loved to be able to do this. Can't wait to try it out.

I'm glad the information could be of assistance. Remember, this will only work if the recipient is using Outlook or the same form of exchange. It will not work for emails sent to Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail, comcast, etc.

If you are in the habit of regretting emails, go into the option and mail settings in Outlook and set your send/receive to 10 minutes or so. This will give you time to remove the message from the outgoing box. You can also use the delay delivery option on possible "regret" emails.
