It’s Never to Late to Learn to Sail…or Blog??

Recently, at a Conference in Quebec City where we spent a day on Web 2.0 and it's relevance in today's Real Estate market, I overheard a comment in a break that went something like "oh, this stuff is way above me, I'm 58 years old, you know". As someone who is older than 58, I find it sad when someone uses age as an excuse for not learning.

My mom was a huge follower of the Arts so I was shocked when in her 80's she became a closet Baseball and Football fan. Her friends were often 20 years younger than her who accepted her as their contemporary. It wasn't until they started dying off that she started to show her age and died at 91.

When my dad turned 82 I bought him a computer. Within one week he had figured out email and shortly thereafter he found family in South America that had been lost to him for over 75 years. I know that experience extended his life a few more years.

My friend Harry moved to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico at 90 to surround himself with younger people and learn to sail.

You are never to old to engage your mind in something new. You are old at 25 if your mind is closed; you will get lots of excuses when you could get lots of results instead. Age is not the issue, it's engaging yourself in what is around you that will keep you young. That is the true secret of youth.

It is never to late to learn to sail!

Richard- Years ago, when individual computer use was just coming into vogue, I read a study that found that children and senior citizens were the two groups that took to it most easily.  They didn't worry about making mistakes or need to understand how it worked.  They just jumped in and started using it.

I am 56 and have no problems accepting the fact that if you are stagnant nothing happens.

Richard:  I am 64... will turn 65 in February.  Blogging is learn-able.  Writing is a talent one either has or does not.  Sometimes abilities can surely be built upon... just like many have including my own.  I myself have bound the TECHNICAL part of blogging very difficult... so I have not learned a lot of the tricks beyond writing and posting blog posts, and inserting pictures in them.  Honestly... to blog, that really IS all you need to do to get your writing on Active Rain.  So... Old Dogs and Old Cats (cat here) can either learn some new tricks, or improve on some old ones.  Thanks for Sharing.

Thanks all for your responses. Age has never been an issue for me to learn anything...well maybe skydiving! (I'm not that crazy)

I'm sure we all hear age being used as an excuse...I have no patience with it and nether does my 76 year old licensed assistant. Ms. Blackberry, we call her.

I have posted some more at www.DowntownTorontoBlog.com, so check them out and send me your thoughts.

Merry Xmas one and all! Cheers
