This flicks fundamental message about blended families uniting together could have gone somewhere, but the story line gets lost someplace in the process. Most of this film deals with the fact that a couple of idiots, Brennan and Dale (played by Will Ferrell and John Reilly), don't like each other. The ironic thing is that while they seem to the think the other one is unusual and dim-witted they don't seem to realize they're nearly the same. The aggression between Brennan and Dale in the first half-hour of Step Brothers is horrible bordering on unbearable, like nails on a chalkboard being scraped together.

I know Will Ferrell is a comedic actor but I'm kinda getting tired of him doing the same movies over and over again! They're just not funny anymore. Thanks for posting.

My 16 year-old thinks it's genius... I liked it to, so maybe I'm suffering from arrested development!!
Maybe I need to see it again, because I got the same impression as Vincent from this movie. Martin and Lewis, I think not. I expected Will Ferrell to be funny, but in this movie, he tries to act dumber than even he can pull off, and the result is just embarrassing. There are some relatively funny bits, but I think the producers just put together a series of bits and there really isn't a story tying it all together. Just a couple guys acting stupid for an hour and a half. So, if you have seen the previews, you have seen the funny parts, why waste your money renting the movie?
