Moving into 2009 and some random thought on Failure and Attitude...

Bad NewsWe have all listened to a lot of negative this year and probably been in on some pretty negative conversations around the water cooler or with our clients.  This has not been an easy year for a lot of us in real estate for one reason or another.  So, what are we going to do in 2009 that is different than 2008?

We can do the negative self talk and eventually start to believe it or we can change the way we are looking at things and do something about it.  We can listen to the negative media and not check out what our MLS is giving us as the actual data for our area.  We can wake up in the morning a say something like, "Good god it's morning" and roll over and go back to sleep or we can say "Thank you God for another day" and get up and face the day.

We have tried the negative and where has it gotten us?  So to help start the new year off on the right foot I have a couple of quotes on the subject of Failure and Attitude.

  1. "You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don't try."  Beverly Sills
  2. "Act as if it were impossible to fail."  Dorothea Brande
  3. "Men are born to succeed, not fail."  Henry David Thoreau
  4. "Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm."  Sir Winston Churchill
  5. "Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."  Thomas A. Edison
  6. "A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort."  Herm Albright
  7. "I am still determined to be cheerful and happy, in whatever situation I may be; for I have also learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances."  Martha Washington
  8. "Human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives."  William James

So, I hope that you have a positive and failure less 2009 and may it be the best year of you have ever Thumbs Uphad.

Looking forward to a great 2009. 2008 had its shortcomings but still was a good year. :)

Hi Don, Well, let me be the first to thank you for an awesome post. I relate to your No. 6, as sometimes my positive attitude does really annoy a lot of folks! They are much happier sucking on their lemons.  My advice, if I may, is move away from those people, and hang out with the people who, like you, live by #1 through #8.  Attitude is everything, we really aren't "in charge" of a lot of other things in our lives!  Best wishes to you for 2009.

Don, I sent you some link love over on my blog.  The comment you made about "trying all the negative" really riled me up when I was thinking about the success of my buddy Chris in Atlanta.  See if my post doesn't strick a nerve with you, too.

Steve,

We did have ample opportunity to go whichever way we so desired.  I believe that those of us that are still around will be stronger in the end.

Mary,

Happy and positive people always annoy those that would prefer the negative in the world.  I think that they think that we are on something illegal.

Keep it up and be a positive influence on folks.  ;-)

You are absolutely correct, it will take hard work and a very positive attitude as we move into the new year if we want to succeed and not become a statistic.

Thank you sir for the love link.

Midori,

I think that you have the right attitude, you can be a realist and still be in control of your attitude and behaviour.  We have been overcome by the negative in the world and allowed it to control us and our thoughts about tomorrow.  It is not about how many times we have been knocked down but how many times we get back up!!!.

I am sure that you will have a GREAT 2009 and all of your agents will be greatly blessed by having you as a trainer.  GBU ma'am

Don - Honestly I avoid bad attitude conversations as much as I can. If I listened right now it would destroy me!!  I am not afraid to admit that I am scared but I won't go down without a fight!

Don:  I'm so glad I stumbled across your blog.  It was well written and you provided some great advice.  Also, I agree with you one hundred percent.  Negative self-talk gets us no where.  I believe we accomplish a whole lot more when we surround ourselves with positive people, read positive books, articles, quotes, etc., and regularly practice positive self-talk.

Tami,

I believe we need to overcome the negative talk with a positive attitude even in the worst of situations.  The other porblem that we have to watch out for is the self talk and what it is that we are saying to ourselves.  GBU

Tracy,

You are right ma'am, we are constantly faced with negative and it has a way of overtaking us and then we have a real struggle getting away from it.  We need to constantly have a positive self-talk and have positive people around us.

Don, it is so important to get rid of negative self talk. Taking that into the new year as something to be positive will take us far.

Gary,

You are absolutely correct, negative self-talk has got to be left in 2008 and move forward into 2009 with positive conversations with ourselves.

JL,

You are so right sir, attitude is everything.  Why would we short change ourselves by thinking that we can't do something and not even give ourself a chance?
