Madinat Jumeirah, DubaiSaying goodbye to Dubai!

December, 2008

This beautiful view of the Burj al Arab from the Madinat Jumeirah will remain with me for the rest of my life.  I enjoyed this year in Dubai for the most part.

But, I can't wait to get back to the greatest country in the world!  God Bless America.  You don't appreciate what you have until it is gone.  Living in Dubai has made me realize what is most important in my life.

Florida is my home and always will be.  It's time to go home.  Even in a bad economy, I look forward to my return with great joy and anticipation.  I hope to be able to continue my work as a Home Stager.  We'll see how the market is when I get there.

Even Dubai was not un-touched by the recent economic down-turn.  There are layoffs happening, businesses going under, construction delays and more.  Don't believe everything you read about Dubai being the greatest place to live and make a fortune.  It simply isn't true.  I know.  I lived here.

Anne,

Well it is nice to hear the unfiltered truth.  You had to wonder about that since with the downward fall of the price of oil they don't have half the money coming in that they used to.

Most people can barely afford to live here.  For example, we pay $5,000 USD for rent on a small villa which is more than double the mortgage on our large home in Tampa.  Now the greedy landlords are paying the price for such high rents.  People are leaving here in droves for lack of affordable housing.  Everything here is more expensive so it negates the tax-free income.

Take Hallmark for example.  Instead of doing the conversion from USD to AED at the rate of 3.67 and maybe adding a little premium to the price, they actually multiply it by 8!  Insanity!  Food prices are double so you need to make a lot of money just to survive.  Gone are the days when people came here to get rich.  Although I am sure a few are, they are just that... a few.

From what I have heard I thought it was a beautiful place but I guess things change there as it does here. I am glad you mentioned coming back to the great place on earth. We all need to appreciate this great country, even with its faults it's the best.

I saw this coming a year or more ago.  It was just a matter of time.  I think it's going to be very hard times over there for the average guy.
