As a new Real Estate professional I have decided to dedicate a lot of my time on education. I'm currently working on getting my GRI designation and would like to get the opinions of other professionals regarding designations in general. What other designations would you recomend and for what reasons? I have thought about getting more involved in commercial tansactions and would like to know what is the best approach to getting invloved in that area of expertise. Should I get my commercial designation? Also I would like to know what other designations are important to have regarding residential and commercial.

I would appreciate any kind of feedback regarding deginations.

Thank you,

I'd aim for the CRS designation if you're going to be doing any residential transactions, the CCIM if you're going to be doing commercial transactions, both if you're going to be doing both. They have history and credibility.

Hi Robert...I am also a believer in the importance of education relfected by the designations you receive.  My favorites are CRS (Certified Residential Specialist...which you need the GRI to apply for), CRB (Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager...only if you are going to manage) and SRES (Senior Real Estate Specialist)

I do not do much commercial stuff, so perhaps that will be answered for you by another Rainer.

So the CRS for residential. Do you think that's better than the GRI?

I have heard that the CCIM is very difficult to obtain.

Thank you for your comments.

Definitly the CRS for Residential.

The CCIM is extremely difficult and expensive to earn.  The # of commercial transactions required are overwhelming if you don't practice commercial real estate as your primary source of business.  I started last year on my CCIM and the intro class was amazing!  Probably one of the best CE classes I have every taken. Please don't let these comments discourage you if you have the time and the motivation anything is possible!

Good luck!
