Tomorrow, I'm doing an Open House.  I'd rather not.

I said I would, and sometimes we do stuff just because we said we would!  This is one of those times.

There are a bunch of things I'd rather do -

  • go to the movies and see "Marley and Me"
  • go shopping
  • visit friends
  • clean my sock drawer

It's cold and the heat isn't working quite as well as I'd like it to in this house.  (Too bad, Pat!  Wear a sweater!)  They don't have a wireless signal and I won't be able to blog.  (You can write a post and put it up later.  Or, try engaging the people who come by!)

Now, normally, I really enjoy doing Open Houses.  And around here, the market took Christmas Day off, but that's about all, so I'll likely see some pretty good action.

Hmmm.  I'd better find an energy fix between now and 1:30 tomorrow afternoon!  Maybe I can channel Willie the hyperactive Labradoodle puppy!

And you never know - I've learned that at an Open, anything could happen!

Clean your sock drawer? LOL! You lead such an exciting life!  =P  But I know what you mean about open houses. Fortunately, once I get started, I actually enjoy talking to the visitors. And I enjoy it even more if I sell the house!

Patricia - I'm in the same boat. Not excited about the open - but I have to give it the old college try. Just like you.

Patricia,

I like the idea of channeling Willie the hyperactive Labradoodle puppy (cute picture!).   As you said it best, anything could happen and if a sale happens, you can afford to spend more and reward yourself on that future shopping trip or feel better for postponing the cleaning of your sock drawer.

Yep!  I'm right with you on seeing Marley.  :)

But, since you promised, good luck with your open house!

Ahhh - to have SOME heat as opposed to NO heat....  I hold open vacant foreclosed houses.  No heat, running water, electricity.  I bring my sock drawer with me to stay warm.  haha

Good luck.  Hope you have lots of company!

At least you're doing what you said you would do which is a ton more than most agents (or people, for that matter).

I have a pre-settlement walk through I'm attending for my Seller client.  The buyer's agent has switched up twice now for scheduling and I'm going to have to run my life around a one hour event in the middle of the afternoon.  We Realtors do a lot for our clients.  And they wonder why we want to be compensated well!

Possible blog post : Why Do Realtors Re-schedule Their Life to Serve the Public?

PS...Soft music, soft lighting, a glass of wine.  Does that help put you in the mood?   :-)

oh, pat, i am dreading it for you!  Yes, there are certainly times that we just aren't "in the mood" for Opens - any paperwork you can take?  hhmmm, any envelopes you can address?  grocery list to make?  i'll be thinking of ya!

Hope you have a good open.  When we get snow and it's cold people don't seem to look.   I don't have any schedule and I'm not a fan.  Good Luck and stay warm...

Lisa, you haven't seen my sock drawer!

Toby, now that I'm here, I'm really glad I'm doing it.  It's such a pretty place!

Gerry, I've had wonderful surprises at enough Open Houses that I really like doing them.

Bruce, I'm trying to get a friend to go see Marley later tonight.

JoAnna,  I learned everything I know about Opens from Jim Weichert!  Listen to everything he says about them!

Nancy, the temperature just hopped up to the low 70's, so the heat isn't an issue at all!

Ken, sorry about the schedule snafu!  And just getting to the house and opening the door got me in the mood - at keast in the mood to work!

Leesa, the lovely man next door just plugged in the password to his wireless, so I can blog between buyers!  Yippee!

I hope that you were able to find lots of energy and had no time to use the neighbor's wireless connection.

IF you can channel that puppy, I may drive on over the mountains to visit you at your Open House! That is one cute D O G !

Patricia,

You kept your word. That's the most important thing. By the way, I took my family to see "Marley and Me" on Sunday evening! Wow, what a great movie. I hope you got a chance to see it. My kids are insisting that we get a dog now! We'll see what happens.

I hope the open house went well.  The weather was warm so hopefully you didn't need the sweater. I'm guessing form all the posts you've done on cleaning recently that it's at the top of the New Year's resolution list.

Have a great New Year's Eve!

Pat,

I understand that one well. The old approach avoidance conflict. You know you should, you could benefit from doing that, but you just plain don't want to.

Oooh, I love your dog!

For me, it's not the open house - it's putting out those damn signs and balloons, while dressed up in heels, with my hair blowing all over the place.  Then, afterwards, when I just want to get home, and I have to do it alllllll over again.

Heather you crack me up because that's what I hate abou the open houses!  Trying to pound my signs into the ground, dealing with the balloons, hair now a mess, all bent over while cars zoom by and I'm exposing god knows what!  The opens are fine...usually not many people but it's always nice to talk...I always have tons to catch up on and no one is saying mommie!

Pat-Hope you had a great open!

Pat - Been there, not wanted to have done that too! I can relate. It's tough to commit to an open house weeks or days earlier and then have to muster up the energy and the mood when the day actually comes. Hope you had a great turn out !

LOL - not to hijack Pat's post, but how about when you do the one handed balloon tie-on because your other hand is holding your v-neck blouse to your chest so you don't flash oncoming traffic.

Hey, now, fellas!  It's not THAT sort of open house!

I once made my brothers go with me to install my signs and my younger brother had a MAJOR case of plumber's crack showing on a busy road.  My older brother and I were HOWLING because there were at least 4 cars at the red light pointing and laughing at him while he hammered that sign in.
