Twitter Twaffic Explodes Confirming New Twend

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with New York Times Bestselling Author & International Speaker

During the holidays I received a few emails indicating surprise that I included micro blogging (Twitter) on my Top 10 Events impacting Real Estate in 2008 so I thought I would provide a little more information for those that are not that familiar with the concept of short text-based 140 character posts.

Twitter is again one of those social media phenomena's. Founded in 2006 Twitter moved into the mainstream in this year. According to HubSpot 1 million people joined Twitter since October, pushing the new 2008 Twitter users to 3.5 million and the grand total to 5 million Twitterers or Tweeple.

(PS: To the loyal MySpace and Facebook fans, yes, Facebook is still the largest socialmedia site and is about 30 times bigger with approx. 140 million users).

Twaffic (Twitter traffic) has risen sharply on Twitter this year. Already at an admirable 1 million unique users per month at the beginning of the year, traffic has risen to almost 4 million unique users per month, affirming Twitter as the #1 micro-blogging tool on the Internet.

Realtors are also in increasing numbers Tweeting (communicating) and Twittworking (networking on Twitter). Various real estate related applications are also starting to emerge.

I will be posting regular Twend Tweets (Real Estate Trend Updates) on Twitter so you are interested you can follow me @Swanepoel

Love to hear are you Rainers are finding Twitter for your real estate busienss?

To Virginia, LuAnn, Mini, Peg, Sandy and the others that feel they do not yet completely understand micro-blogging, I will write a new blog post this coming weekend to try and help provide more clarity for you.

The post, scheduled for later today, will not do that - it is merely a fun post with "new" words that have jumped into our new lexicon of vocabulary due the popularity of Twitter.

Thank you for this post.  I am now following you on Twitter.  I am very intersted in getting your updates that are twitter & real estate specific.  I am using Twitter and still working on figuring out its best application/approach for furthering my business.  Fyi, I am a true HubSpot fan.  I am using all of their tools and I have learned so much from them.

Twitter is like any other type of marketing - you have to find out IF it makes sense for you & HOW.

Each type of marketing - mailings, ads, websites, etc attract their own type of people.  Same goes for the different flavors of social media.  Always let your personality show through so you will attract people you resonate with.  Understand, you can't be everything to everybody.

Twitter is in large part, for people that like to move "fast".  Hence the limit of 140 characters.

I'm not surprised by Twitter's rapid growth. It's a great resource, and the 140-character limit really makes people get to the point.

I really am not sure what you get out of tweeter for real estate.

I guess it is another place to find people. It is reverse of people finding what you have.

Stefan and John: I just had a Twitter epiphany.

What if I could limit my mother-in-law, a friend who speaks in 10-minute sentences and agents who give blow-by-blow accounts of their showings a magical limit of...140 characters?

It is a delicious thought.

To Roberta,

Sounds like a plan. It will probably be twetopia.

By the way. The Twitter Dictionary is up at http://activerain.com/blogsview/856613/A-Twittonary-of-Twitter-Terms

Took me a while to embrace Twitter but I love it now.  I start clicking on the shared links and I end up at some pretty interesting places.  I have business in mind when I Twitter but I would use it regardless for the "real time" conversation.
