I have started re-blogging a few posts and I want to explain WHY to my AR friends.

When AR first introduced re-blogging I didn't understand the point. I never did it. Recently, however, I experimented with reblogging posts that

1. I thought my outside blog might benefit from (as in, finance articles, interest rate alerts, etc... things I didn't write but thought my outside readers might benefit from.

2. I re-blogged inside AR posts that I loved and wanted to emphasize.

So... it's an experiment on whether re-blogging is good or not, or whether or not it's beneficial.
What do others think about reblogging? Beneficial to your outside blog or not? Reasons to do it? Or not?

Erica, I do it because I find useful information that I think my readers -- consumers -- could benefit from.  Or, like you said, to emphasize a point, etc., that I might feel strongly about to either my peers or consumers.  You recently posted a few that I might want to re-blog as well!  Personally, I think it's a great tool.

Hey, Erica.  Good subject for a blog.  Other people may not feel the same way I do.

I re-blog posts I think are important. I will try to post the re-blog in different groups than the original was posted in...this way it's seen by those who had missed it the first time around.

I have re-blogged a couple of blogs because I found them interesting and thought my readers would appreciate them.  I like having the opportunity to share other's wisdom so easily.  Some readers won't click a link to read the rest - it's nice being able to have the entire post there for them to read.

Erica, I am glad you posted this as I have wanted to re-blog a couple of interesting things but I never really figured out how you do that.   Maybe someone or yourself could direct me on where we find this info at.  Thanks for your help

Erica,

Although I haven't tried it, I think reblogging is a way to keep valuable information in front of your subscribers...totally unselfish!!! Thanks,   Fran

After considerable research, I have determined that the only blogs worth reblogging are mine. Feel free. :)

Erica,

Normally I wouldn't copy and paste a prior comment but I left this comment a few weeks ago on another blog talking about reBlogging and it seems to fit this post as well. Hopefully it gives some insight into where we were coming from when we introduced reBlogging:

"

Let me give you an example of how I would use it if I was an agent. Let's say I have an ActiveRain outside blog on a unique URL. I use that URL in my offline (or online) marketing efforts. I 'farm' a neighborhood lets say and I include the URL on all the postcards I send each month to the people of that neighborhood. I say something to the effect of

"get insight on your local real estate market and other tips for getting the most value for your investment...." (I know corny, but I'm not sending this out to anyone)...."by visiting my blog at 'bobisthebestagentthereis.com. Feel free to leave your comments as well so that I can answer any questions you might have about real estate"

So on my outside blog, I have all kinds of posts written by me that talk about their local market and give them advice on all the things I am an expert in. However, I am not an expert in financing, title insurance or home inspections. Since ActiveRain has experts in all these fields, I am always keeping my eyes open for great articles that I think the people I am marketing to with my farming efforts would be interested in. So I find an article written by a home inspector about common electrical issues that homeowners in my market face. I can reBlog that article to my outside blog and now it is available for my farm to read. I can do the same thing with articles about all facets of real estate.....even the ones I myself am not an expert in.

You then become THEIR expert for everything real estate.........

Again, that's how I would use it and one of the ways we envisioned it being used when we launched the concept."

Erica,

I'm so glad I stopped by to read your article.  The title is what did it, and I appreciate Bob Stewart's perspective.

Erica I haven't re-blog any one blogs yet. But I know a couple of people have re-blogged my blogs. You just reminded me that I need to get a domain name for my outside AR Blog. Thank you very much for making a comment on my blog. Have a safe and Prosperous 2009. Great post.

I haven't reblogged anything yet, but I've been thinking about it. Your article and the comments clarified stuff a lot. I also want to ask if you've had a chance to check out the Real Estate Wiki? If you haven't, it would be awesome if you took a moment to check it out:)

Bob--and everyone--thanks for the replies. I didn't re-blog for ages, then I recently started when someone suggested I add some non-real estate (title, loan etc) info to my outside blog for readers. THen I reblogged a few items on financing, and home inspections, to see what happened. Reading Bob's reply, that's just what the founders of AR intended.

I don't want to re-blog too much... but I do want to add other info to my blog so readers gain the info.

I do not understand the benefit of reblogging.  I thought blogging was for what I wrote.  If I want to read other blogs I  can do that on my own.

Robert--From what I figured out, the re-blog is if you find a blog that you think your outside blog readers would like. Not for your AR blog so much. So if I see a mortgage/finance blog that I think outside readers would benefit from, I'll reblog.
