Police in the Annapolis MD area are cautioning people about some of the dangers of Craigs List. As REALTORS® we all know about the rental scams that can occur from listing a property on Craigs List.

Since Craigs List can be local in certain metropolitan areas, buyers and sellers of merchandise have a tendency to meet in person, rather than conduct the business via mail or delivery service. Recently, there have been several reports of buyers luring Craigs List sellers to remote areas and robbing them.

Craigs List provides a valuable service to a great many people. Despite this, a little prudence in where you might be meeting a potential buyer is warranted.

Like the sergeant used to say in the old "Hill Street Blues" television show, "Be careful out there."

Richard.. a very good point. People need to be aware of the scams out there, even in real estate. On another note, how did you do the Tweeter thing and link to your page so people can follow you?  thanks

Richard - I have sold and bought several items from craigslist and always go with somebody and make sure I pick a public spot. Good reminder. ~Rita

Anytime one can meet a stranger on the spur of the moment one has to use caution.  We all need those alarm bells going off in our heads and have to learn to listen to them.

Thank you Richard for pointing this out.  I hope 2009 is the year that we hear success stories about how real estate agents and consumers foil assaults and robberies.

Jeff, The image is public domain so feel free to right click and copy it. When you put it in a post, highlight it and add your link to Twitter. http://www.twitter.com/YOUR TWITTER NAME. I've created a draft post with just my signature line and all I do is copy and paste everything to a new post.

Rita/Brian, Craigs list is a terrific resource, but unlike eBay a lot of people buying and selling on Craigs list meet face to face for the transaction. Lately, there have been a couple of incidents around here that have been criminal.

Kris, So many people have no clue where they are at any given time. We always have to be careful about potential danger around us at all times. Sad, really.

Hi Richard:

I've heard some horror stories.  And still, there are some sellers that want their home on craigslist anyway...go figure.

The same has happened here. There's also been a problem with vacant properties, with people calling up and asking to meet a Realtor at the property for a look-see.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life -- make it a good start.
