Well, another year has whizzed by us at blinding speed. "Where did the year go?" Well, for me, 2008 was the proverbial mixed bag. 2008 started out more promising than it ended...listing wise. The highlight of my year was a Short Sale (some call it "Short Pay"), that lasted eight whole months! Psew...! It was a roller coaster of surprises, especially since we had two disparate lenders involved, with the subordinate lender dragging their feet in giving the primary lender their lien release. The Buyer (and his Agent) were absolutely the best, and hung in there with us from the very beginning. And when the lender closed the file and began foreclosure proceedings due to some negilegence in their loss mitigation department, our buyer stayed the course, and in the end, was rewarded with title to a very nice Southern California property.
People ask me--almost apologetically--"Gene, how is real estate doing?" And I tell them it is "doing" it's thing. As market values continue to fluctuate, and uncertainty swirls all about us, I tell them "that when one door closes, another door of opportunity opens." This tenant will carry me through 2009, and while the sailing might not be so smooth, the door of opportunity will remain open for me to help any of those future clients who are looking for a professional REALTOR to help them reclocate to an affordable home in the San Gabriel Valley, assist someone in selling a property that is worth less than what they owe on it, help an elderly person with a move or reverse mortgage, or highlight some great investment opportunities to those who have some extra liquidity.
