Today is a Rough Day for Me...

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Homes and Estates, Lipman Group #311723

Today is a rough day for me and I have been feeling very uncomfortable all day.  I have been going back and forth on whether or not I wanted to blog on this.  It's very emotional for me and I am not one to share publicly my deep emotions very often.

However, this topic affects a lot of people these days, so I am daring to put myself out there a little bit.

The topic is CANCER and how it is ruining lives at an astounding rate today.

Four months ago, my cousin Christy called with the news that her 35-year-old husband Nathan had cancer.  Today is the Memorial Service.

He had bile duct cancer.  It was incurable.  He is gone now - and his 30 year old wife is left behind to pick up the pieces of her life and try to move forward.

Throughout this ordeal, Christy has impressed me deeply with her bravery and her faith.  She has handled this situation by keeping the family updated daily through Caring Bridge - an amazing organization, by the way - and by sharing her deepest thoughts and emotions with all of us.

I will be attending the Service today in remembrance of a peaceful and happy-go-lucky man who almost always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say.  I really don't want to go.  Don't want to think about how any one of us could be here today and gone tomorrow.

If you think for a moment, I am sure that you know someone whose life has been affected by cancer.  Let's not sit by and let this awful disease continue to take more and more precious souls away from us.  Reach out to those in needGive money if you want to - JUST DO SOMETHING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE... Because life is too precious and it is too short to waste any more time!

Rest in peace, Nathan.  You are always loved and will be missed.

My heart goes out to you and your family.  Cancer has taken loved ones from my family more than once and it never gets easier to lose a loved one.  There really are no words, especially when someone who is loved so much is lost so early but I am thinking of you and yours on this day.

My mother's mother passed away at age 54 during her second fight against breast cancer leaving behind a devoted husband, six children, several grandchildren and a huge family with a hole in their hearts.  My mother holds a breast cancer luncheon every year to raise money to be donated to the American Cancer Society and dedicates the luncheon as a memorial to her mother.  It is a good way to celebrate survivors and remember those who are no longer with us.

Emily, my thoughts and prayers are with you.  Losing someone so dear, is such a difficult thing to have to go through.  Cancer is no respect or of persons and it always frightens me to think about all of those loved ones and people I do not even know that have succumbed to it's deadly claws.  Hopefully, someday they will find a cure for cancer.

Hi Emily~ I am so sorry about the loss of your relative. Cancer is a horrible thing for anyone to ever have to deal with. Unfortunately, dying is the sad part of life and it is so hard to deal with. It is difficult no matter what age, especially for the young.....

Emily, we are so sorry for your loss. We lost a very close family member a few months ago to colon cancer and it does hurt to lose someone you care about. This person actually had a colonoscopy 5 months prior to getting diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you, your cousin and her family.

Emily - I am so sorry about Christy's husband. Nothing anyone can say will make this day easier for you. The most important part is what you said: "Throughout this ordeal, Christy has impressed me deeply with her bravery and her faith. "

Christy's faith is what will pull her through. And the love and prayers of her family, like you, and those who also knew him and lost him. You're always in my thoughts and prayers. Call me if you need me. Love ya! Connie

Emily,

I am very sorry for your loss.  There are no words that can comfort here.  I lost my Dad to prostate cancer a year ago this month.  It has been tough!  What keeps you going are the memories and faith.  God Bless.

What a devastating loss. So young and the tragedy is appalling. I am so sorry to hear this news and our thoughts go out to you, your sister and your entire family. I lost my Father 7 years ago to Lymphoma and though he was 75, it was still too soon.

What a heartbreaking loss. My sympathies to his widow and all of his friends and relatives. The loss of a young person isn't an easy thing to go through. I know you don't feel like going, as many people don't, but be there for his family. My sincere condolences.

Emily, his picture looks like he was a very happy soul.  I'm sure this loss was deep for both you and Christy, your cousin.  We do all know someone with cancer, it is so prevalent.  My brother had it five years ago and went through a bone marrow transplant and for now, all is well.

I hope you were able to be a comfort to Christy and that it was a celebration of his life for you.

Emily, how very sad for someone so young to be afflicted with such an awful disease - AND - to leave his wife. I can only relate how difficult it would be for me. ;-)
