Secret Life of Bloggers-Free WiFi at Wegmans

Anyone who finds spends a few hours a day blogging knows that you can become weary of looking at the walls in your office, either at home or elsewhere.  So you venture out into the world to make connections not only with people but with the free WiFi spots around your area.

By accident I recently discovered a new free WiFi spot in Woodbridge.  The obvious spots are Starbucks and Panera Bread with a number of locations around the area.  The not so obvious one is the second level lounge/eating area at Wegmans grocery store.

It just so happened that when I stopped in at Wegmans after dropping off brochures at a new listing in Potomac Club, my little 9 inch laptop was in my bag.  I figured I'd write myself a few notes and maybe even a blog post while I had some lunch from one of their fabulous prepared food areas.  When I fired up my computer up popped a wireless network icon and sure enough a live internet connection.

If you live in the Woodbridge or Dumfries area and are hungry, stopping by Wegmans for a bite to eat is an experience in itself.   Discovering that you can log on to a wireless network while you eat lunch and people watch should make Wegmans a local favorite for bloggers and anyone else who needs an escape from their home office.

:)  The Oh-So-Sought-After-Wifi-Spots! I recently found out that The Fifth Avenue Coffee Company on Fifth Avenue, Naples FL offers free Wi-Fi to its customers. I would have had no clue. Such a small, homey place with the delicacies of the old world and the best of conveniences of the modern era.  It really makes a difference though. Thank you for sharing your spot!

Cindy, I'll meet you down at Wegmans next time I've got to grocery shop and we can blog about it!  Took my wife to Wegmans a couple weeks ago and had quite the shopping/dining adventure.

Elayna-Fifth Ave Coffee sounds like a find.  If I'm ever in Naples I'll know where to go.

Brian-blogging while overlooking the Sushi Bar, I'm sure it is worth at least 200 points!  PS I talked to JW yesterday so our paths may cross more often in the beginning of 2009 :-)

Kate-I have the Assus EPC.  The biggest adjustment was the little keyboard.  I'm looking into upgrading the RAM as it seems to be a bit slow to open some programs.  However it is so much easier than lugging around my 17" Dell.  Oh and you will love Wegmans, though it is more of a store than I need most of the time.

Cynthia-the store is way to big for me for everyday shopping but for special "treats" and free WiFi I can be swayed.

Cindy - I'm embarassed to say that I've only had a laptop for a few months now and don't really understand how to access even Starbucks WiFi. We have it at the office and it's programmed into my computer. How do I know/then access the free ones?

Connie-when you take your computer into a location that offers free WiFi when you log on to your computer a dialog box should open that shows "available wireless connections."  You would then select the connection where you are.  It is usually fairly simple.  Starbucks is a little tricky as they want you to pay, however if you have a Starbucks gift card then you can register the card and get free WiFi.  If all else fails look around to see who else is using their computer where you are and usually they will help you out.  Good luck and enjoy moving around town with your laptop!
