The Cleavers The holidays.... I just love them. Especially being around my family. For many that know, I am not married nor do I have any kids. But I have 3 nieces and 3 nephews. All with a unique story and each with a different personality.

My sister, about 12 years ago, was diagnosed with cancer and was told that she couldn't have kids. After trying every possible method, they ended up adopting. They decided to adopt a boy and girl, who are now 9 years old. After they came back from Kazakhstan, where they adopted, she found out that she was actually pregnant. Then they felt bad 6 months later for my oldest niece, because there were now two boys, so they adopted another girl, who is now almost 5. Well, we thought all was quiet on the home front, until I got a call last November. "Hey, guess what, your sister is pregnant,.... & with twins...".

Andrew & Alisha with Santa

Now, even though I only live about 25 minutes from parents and about 30 minutes from my sister & brother-in-law, every Christmas I go over and spend about 3 to 4 days. I'll stay at my parents for those days, but we'll always have Christmas dinner at my sister's house. And for the last 7 years or so, we have a friend that dresses up as Santa and visits us and another family or two, dropping off gifts.

The kids can't believe that Santa comes by twice, in one day.  Well, 2 of them are getting old enough to where they have a clue now and have been asking questions. But here are the two middle aged kids, Andrew and Alisha.

Andrew as a cop

Andrew....  it's great watching kids grow up, wanting to be something, especially around Halloween. And reminiscing what we as kids wanted to be when we grew up. Well, now my nephew wants to be a police officer. And just to see his face glow when Santa brought him the outfit and his parents bought him the accessories. He and I actually played a little with my cell phone and his walkie talkie. He enjoyed it....

Ava

Now, unfortunately, this was a bad shot of Ava, because of the red eye in the picture. And I couldn't get rid of it. Oh well... but she is a cutie... and such a joy to be around.

Johnny and Santa

Here is Johnny, sitting on Santa's lap. Not sure why he is pouting.... lol  He is always smiling, even when upset. It doesn't last long.

Joey

Joey

Here are 2 pictures of Joey. On the right, he was sick for a few days. Not himself. But when I went back over on Saturday, he was his joyful self. He is trying to crawl and might be a month away...

Jeff-there is nothing better than being around the little ones at Christmas.  Our family gathered at my son's house in Denver and watched my 2 year old granddaughter enjoy the first Christmas where she understood the idea of presents.  Of course she had to open ALL the presents but who cares.  The best to you in 2009.  One of these days I'll be around when you come to DC!

Have a great new year!

Jeff, what a great looking family.  My daughter was adopted from Romania, so I say yea! to your sister.  I also found out I was pregnant not long after our daughter came home!  I'm sure you enjoy being the favorite, indulgent uncle.  Enjoy them now - they grow up tooooo fast!

CINDY..... . there isn't... I enjoy it. Even though they want the attention, it's just fun to watch them.  And yes, hopefully we'll meet up one of these days....  Best to you in 2009 also.. thanks

RUSSELL.... .  I always knew about joy and misery....  but boy, was that fun..  ;o)   And not because I am an Eagles fan, but I like our chances of advancing. A Eagles / Giants matchup would be a good one...  And too a great and happy New Year to you also...

HEATHER.... .  yes, they grow up very quickly.  I can see why my sister loves having babies around...  sure, they are hard work, because they can't take care of themselves. But it's hard to believe that two of them are in 3rd grade and just getting older.

In any case, that's a great story about yourself also.  thanks for stopping by and sharing that.

Jeff, They are so beautiful.  Like you, I don't have kids - I don't even have any nieces or nephews to be around.  At the holidays it always makes me a little sad.  Good for you to have such beautiful children to be around and enjoy.  Good for your sister to have made life better for kids that may not have had such a beautiful life and having her own "surprises. "  Love all of the photos.

Holidays are the best because of being with family.

Dude....you're lving the dream.  You get to spoil the kids and return them all jacked to the parents.  Great story on your sis.  I was the oldest, but last to get married.  I spoiled them rotten and left.  My brother hated it.  He really hated it when I bought my godchild a set of drums for Christmas and left.  Too much fun.

AUDREY.... .  do you want kids?  Sorry if that is personal....  but after meeting you, you would be great with kids...  but yes, it's great to be around them.  And yes, she did make several more lives very plentiful and enjoyable. Thanks..

RUSSELL..... .  I take it that you are a Cowboys fan.... and not a Texans fan?  And yes, you need to be a good sport, especially after what happened to Dallas.  It will be nice to have something to look forward to on Sunday....  thanks...

JASON.... .  thanks dude.... and you behave also. As of now, no big plans. I am actually tired from the last 10 days and the x-mas break was not long enough... I actually worked a full day on Friday.. lol  Happy New Year..

LARRY.... .  well, I treat them good... and have spoiled them occassionally with candy... but no drum sets as of yet. My brother-in-law already did that... lol  But yes, it is fun and a good time... thanks

Jeff--Love this post! What do you mean you have no kids...You certainly look like you love this bunch as much as if they were yours...better as you can spoil them and let your sister deal with the outcome. ;)  You are a very proud uncle but it looks like your sister & brother-in-law sure have their hands full with those beautiful kids! (I had no idea they were all in one family when you said you had 6 nieces and nephews!)

Jeff, I enjoyed the photos of your holiday and your family.  And Teri is right about your sister - Boy, she does have her hands full.  Good she has family nearby to help.  Single, huh - have you seen a photo of my daughter?  Kidding, of course, she's in Texas and you're in PA.
