Matt Cutts PAgerank

Google has updated their Pagerank on December 30th right before New Year's.  Consider this a New Year's Eve present!

Word on the web had rumors stirring that Pagerank was going to be updated before Christmas Day but Google once again fooled us making this Pagerank Update the longest it has been since 2003.

Google Pagerank usually updates every 3 months.  Pagerank is a measuring tool from 0-10 (10 being the Best) that is used to measure Reputation and Content.

The controversy is that some webheads don't feel Pagerank is worth it, but wouldn't you want to have a high Pagerank anyways?

Below are my sites that have changed.

Activerain Blog - http://activerain.com/jwilliams - Went from PR2 to PR3 YAY!

My New Outside Blog - http://virginiamortgageloan411.wordpress.com - Went from PR0 to PR2 (Opened in September 2008)

My Personal Site - http://socialmediavision.com - Went from PR0 to PR3 (opened in November 2008)

To check your Pagerank go to http://www.prchecker.info

Any of yours changed?

Yeah I saw this too. My site hit 3. The only thing is that it really doesnt matter because PR has little or nothing to do with how you show up in results. But its good to know that something is working.

I see your profile got a 3. My blog on here went to "0" I wonder if that didnt update yet or something? Before it was at a 1 I think and now seems to have gone away. My profile shot up to a 4 though? Weird stuff. I wonder if AR changed how Google sees the profiles and blogs and tried to consolidate the PR? What do you think?

I figured they were changing something because my site finally starting ranking very high for the denser key words and ranking top for less sought after words.

Very cool.  I heard there were some changes coming interesting day to push them live.  My guess is their algorithms changed too.

You know after I wrote that yesterday today my profile is a 3. But toolbar rank doesnt mean anything really and its certainly not correct.

My AR Profile hit a 4/10 even better than my site at 3/10.  Though my site comes back higher on relevant searches regarding Kentucky Home Inspections.

My blog hit a 2/10.  That's probably good for an ego boost anyway.

It is just the toolbar rank and not really anything to do with the real PR calcluation but still neat to see.

@Erby nice results there, glad you are seeing some good things on your sites

@Teri - Thanks for stopping by and providing words of encouragement :)

@ Eau - Google Toolbar Pargerank is just a visual number 0-10 and is not that far off the Real PR rank for example. Toolbar may show 4.999 as a 4 but the real PR is 4.999 closer to 5.  All in all I still say PageRank is good to have due to many reasons.

Justin here is a pretty good read about page rank. Some of it I didnt fully understand until I read it. http://www.highrankings.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=17365

@ Eau - Yes I seen her post before and her main point is focus on content which is correct dont worry about rankings just like in activerain but heres the main deal and this is proven over and over again.  PageRank is a measurement used in the cyberworld whether people like it or not.  I gurantee you if you have 2 similir websites with 2 similiar names like.

GreenApples.com or ApplesGreen.com  and the 1st one has a PR 7 while the other has PR2 the PR7 will sell for $150,000 while the PR2 might sell for $1,000.  PR is a major negotiating tool when getting sponsors too, You can have the best content in the world but when Advertisers sees your site and want to sponsor your site they will be snobbish about it an pay you lower due to a low pagerank.

Don't get me wrong Im not saying pagerank is king, its just like in the real world where fat girls are not mainly chosen to be models...is it wrong, yes? Is it true, unfortunately.  Just like in the Google world you will be viewed unbiased based on PAgeRank whether we like it or not.

http://www.ianrogers.net/google-page-rank/ is more in depth bottom line Eau everyone is right in their own way but I would rather not chance of not trying to get a high page rank than being left out in having a zero page rank, Google changes all the time,  Have a great weekend!

Not fair. I was just starting to understand the whole seo thing, and even have a number 1 rank on one of my key word searches, and now I find out there is another rank I have to check!

True Justin and it feels really good watching your rank shoot up. I just about jumped out of my seat when I saw a 3 on my website finally. 8 months of not knowing SEO = no traffic and 0 page rank. 3-4 months of really hard work= 3 PR and 200+ unique visitors/ month and growing.

I guess I was just saying that toolbar rank and actual PR are two different things but many think its the same.

Hi Justin;  My page ranks on my pages stayed the same. But luckily page rank does not seem to be a huge thing as far as ranking on the first page of google!

hmmm, my webpage was 1/10, and my other site didn't have a ranking.  I'm assuming that's bad. :)  Gotta figure out some more of that techy stuff I guess.  Thanks for the tip!
