Love Birds or Flying Rats?

I never thought of pidgeons as Love Birds.  In fact, when I worked in Sausalito, I thought of them as flying rats.  The two birds pictured above have changed the way I look at pidgeons.  You see, they live on the roof of the property behind my house.  At least I think they do.  They are there every day.  They sit on the corner overlooking my back yard.  It seems as though they are watching over me.  They certainly are watching over each other.  The preen each other and kiss.  When other birds try to invade their space, they chase them off.  I like having them there.  It's charming.  I think I'm getting soft in my old age.

By the way, is it spelled "pidgeons" or "pigeons"?
