It's not even officially 2009 and I've already caught myself trying to deviate from my new business plan! Fortunately I caught it before I went crazy and tried to kill myself the first week into the new year.
It's hard for me to believe, but when I look at my calendar, I already have an appointment(s) every weekday in January. With signing a new contract for a vacant staging job scheduled for next week, I had a reality check. I noticed that I had just too many things on the books. My goal was to not kill myself in 2009, but to work smarter. So, what to do.....
I've referred the both the owner occupied and vacant staging jobs on my books to other very talented and capable team members. I collect a referral fee and can continue to work on other projects I've been putting off, which could actually lead to additional revenue streams later in the year.
I've gone back to my plan and instead of spending time creating a staging schedule, budget and list of furniture, art, accessories, etc I've spent my morning sending updates to my webguys adding our new mentoring and business coaching sessions, growth sessions and our new Northeast Region Staging Instructor (I am chomping at the bit to make that announcement!).
Today I'll have time to work on my Staging Award Nominee marketing pieces for RESA, begin the Marketing Continuing Ed course I've been promising Shell for almost a year and I may actually have time to hit the wii fit that we got for Christmas!
This is why we have a business plan and why we need to keep it in front of us. It is far too easy to get off course and find yourself veering from the path. Your business plan, goal list and tracking charts are meant to help you on track and grow your business! No good business should be operating without one.
Today is the last dayof 2008.... is yours completed?
