In my local market, I'm amazed daily by the number of agents who just don't see where our business is headed.  Many don't see it because they just simply haven't kept up, while many others simply choose not to care.

I always wonder, do they really think that the changes going on in our industry are temporary, or are they just naive enough to think that someday they'll be able to catch up?

Technology is moving at such an amazing pace that it won't be long before those who aren't keeping up now will be unable to catch up.  They'll simply be obsolete.

The new mantra of just about any and every business in existence should be 'Get on Board, or Get Left Behind.'

Ryan - we agree! There's no time for "old school" business practices, and the technology is so exciting! One does not have to be the most tech-savvy real estate agent, just get on board and use what you can.

attrition in the future will be as a result of technology not market conditions...the no fee brokers already created a haven for agents to put their license in a fee safe zone while they wait for 2004-5 to come back again.  that is a joke.

This means to me that I need to hire a full time technical student to keep up with the changes that I need to apply to my business so that I will have the time to sell Real Estate. Good post thanks.

We constantly need to be on our toes on the newest technology to help us in our daily jobs and assist our clients in making smart choices.... It is amazing the way real estate has changed over the last ten years, not to mention the last 100 years... and what is to come in the next two years.

Ryan - I just saw this yesterday and this is definitely eye-opening. There are new strong winds blowing.  Made me rethink how my children will be schooled. Happy New Year to you and your family. ~Rita

Andrew - no doubt, and I think it's more true today than ever before. Things are just changing too quickly to only learn occasionally. Thanks for your input.

Fran and Rowena - Exactly right. We can't know it all, but we have to at least specialize in some areas.

Michael - I agree, and I think it will get more and more difficult for those bandwagon agents to survive or compete.

Craig - That's certainly an avenue to consider in today's changing business landscape. We can't do it all ourselves, and hiring out what we don't have the time or knowledge to do is one way to stay out in front.

Bill - And a prosperous 2009 to you as well!

Kim - Amazing indeed. It's more important than ever to keep up.

Li - You're welcome. Happy New Year!

Lane - I too found this video pretty informative.

Rita - Education is definitely another of the faster-changing segments. Did you see the part of the video that said that by the 3rd year of college, more than half of what the students learned in the first year will already be obsolete?

Hi Ryan: Thanks for sharing that video--it was both interesting and informative! Technology is so important that if you aren't using the latest technology in your real estate business you reall are going to be left behind. Everybody needs to jump onboard!

Have a great day,

Anne Rains
