I came across this video on 5 benefits for blogging and why a business should have a blog. I think it pertains equally well to us Activerain blog users and to our outside blogs as well as how re-blogging to Facebook using an application such as Simplaris Blogcast and the Activerain connection to Twitter, can benefit in many ways. Since we are all trying to maximize our efforts, time and money, the 5 simple benefits are really quite easy to understand and I find most active bloggers on Activerain are experiencing some, if not all of these benefits already. What are your thoughts on this subject?

As quoted from the original post:
"Blogging is the most cost-efficient business strategy any company can have in the midst of this dire economy. People on both the buyer side and the company side are reaching out to the Web and utilizing it.

As Jennifer Evans Laycock of Search Engine Guide explains in the above video, consumers have less money to spend and therefore research their purchases more. Companies see their revenue falling and put a stronger effort on understanding their consumers. Usually the companies and consumers end up meeting through social media.
Interestingly enough, many of these companies are small businesses that compete on a global level as a result of the abilities of the Internet. Social media is the key in making this possible since it does not require a large budget. Speaking specifically about blogs, Jennifer lays out several reasons why a business should have a blog:

1. Showcase your personality
2. Create a feedback cycle
3. Build a loyal community
4. Create an emotional investment
5. Increase your credibility

These reasons for having a blog are also benefits of having a blog. Time is the only drawback to having a blog. It takes a lot of time and is a full time commitment, but it produces many benefits as evidenced in the points shown here."

You're right this is some great information.  I agree with the personal part of it is integral.  Anytime I've met someone from AR personally I already feel like I know them.

Ed this was very interesting. I am still pretty new to social networking in general but I'm finding it fascinating - when I'm not frustrated because I don't get it! LOL

Ed... You got it, right on! Because of social networking I have learned more this past year than any 5 put together. Any endeavor takes time, dedication, and patience. Have a great 2009.

Brian - Thanks. Just glad to share with others.  The personal part is what makes it really effective, I think. How are things in Boise, btw? I look forward to hearing more on this subject, so feel free to add me as an associate or message me anytime Brian. From each other here on AR I think we can all learn how to take our business to a new level in 2009 and using social networking will be a big part of those Realtors/Mortgage people success in '09!

Connie - Glad to hear from you. Social networking is much like a cocktail party, but not time-dependent.  (I wish I came up with the analogy to a cocktail party, but the folks at www.hubspot.com is where I read it). I'd like to hear more of what you are doing to increase your social networking online. Please feel free to message me or add me as an associate. It's always great to connect with more professionals.

Rene - The time involved in staying in tune and in touch through social networking, does take its' toll. But the efforts we make only increase our knowledge and experience, I believe, IMHO and I thank you for your observations.  You have a great 2009 too and please stay in touch.  Best wishes to you...
